Still not feeling well, but she was willing to nibble at some dry, crumbled Stella & Chewy's and she lapped up some more broth. No interest in super-runny pate, though.

Given her behavior and elevated BG levels, I'm suspecting an infection of some kind.

Waiting to hear back from the vet about an appt.

Hope you can get her in and they can give you some concrete answers on what is making the poor girl feel bad.

i'm sorry Amy. hope they figure out what's wrong with her. i sooooo wish they could talk!!! hmmm but then again i can hear it now " wake up women and get my breakfast . lololololol"

Poor baby girl is VERY not well. Fortunately, she isn't quite at the DKA stage, though apparently she was headed there. I apparently got her to the vet in time to head that off. She does seem to have a massive infection, though, and is dehydrated in spite of all her water-guzzling and the 100 ml of fluids I gave her last night. So right now, she's at the vet getting IV fluids, injectable abx, pain meds, and an insulin drip to start getting her stabilized. She's going tonight to a 24/7 vet in Virginia Beach and hopefully will only need one night there. The amazing Jenna is helping to transport her there. THEN Sunny will have another vacation at Spa Jenna to be sure she recovers fully from this - with my schedule, there's no way I can provide proper after-care. And maybe Aunt Jenna can figure out how to break Sunny. I can't figure out what's different at my house from Jenna's (unless it's just that she's had an underlying infection for a long time).

Jenna is awesome and amazing, and I hope everyone will send some good vibes her way. Sunny's, too, of course!

DCIN and Venita are also awesome and amazing. She's making sure that Sunny gets the best possible care.

sending lots of healing to Sunny and big hugs to you Amy. it was great that you could get her to the vet.

Many thanks to Amy for catching this situation so early, and to Jenna for going above and beyond to transport Sunny to the emergency facility and to get her checked in and staying through the results of the vet exam. Poor Jenna was there until past midnight. And thanks Jenna for offering to have Sunshine stay at your Spa for a bit for after-care. I also want to thank Carolyn from the AcroGroup (another close DCIN friend and foster/adoptive Mom) for offering to check in on Sunny while she is in the hospital.

According to the emergency vet at 1:30 this morning, Sunny seems stable. The biggest problems are the infection (unknown origin) and that she (Ms. Picky anyway) isn't eating. Those two things plus not enough insulin to control high BG levels = DKA . . . and Sunny was headed down that road. She likely will be getting an ultrasound this morning to look for abdominal inflammation or infection as possible triggers for this condition.

At this point, the emergency facility is asking to hospitalize Sunny for two days.

I also recommend that folks look at the Think Tank post by Steve at http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=9070. Steve and many of those who responded impart a lot of sage advice. I am not saying that is what happened to Sunny, because she also has the serious infection happening. But I do caution about recommending "insulin vacations" or large dose reductions without some pretty convincing evidence to do so. But for Sunshine it may be that the dose reduction in combination with the lingering infection might have pushed her over the DKA edge.
