Jude's numbers are back up today. Since his numbers went down on Saturday after the vet's visit and, more importantly, after Jude emptied his bladder while at the vets, and then remained okay for a day but began climbing back up today, I began to wonder if, perhaps, the rising numbers indicated that he might have a blockage or a partial blockage, which, I'll be honest, freaks me out. So, I decided to take him back to the vet today just to get them to check again to see if they thought he might be partially blocked. Both Jude and Hazel use the same boxes, so this morning I separated both of the cats so that I could monitor Jude's litter box visits. He urinated around 3pm today, but it was much smaller than the regular Jude-sized pee, and that worried me. The vet (not the same one from Sat.) examined Jude, performed another ultrasound, and x-rayed his bladder. She saw nothing to indicate a blockage. In fact, she said that his bladder lining was nice and thin, not like the typical FIC bladder which is often thick as a result of inflammation, and she concluded that based on the labs and her exam today, there is nothing wrong with Jude, and, furthermore, she does not even think he is experiencing an FIC flare. She said she thinks it's great that I monitor Jude's numbers but that I don't need to fixate on them when there are occasional fluctuations, especially where there is nothing further to indicate an issue.

Am I being hypervigilant about these sudden changes in his numbers? In the past, a change has meant something was wrong, usually a UTI. This time, the urine is clear: no blood, nothing to indicate a FIC flare and no bacteria that would suggest a UTI. But what's confusing is that it's not like Jude's numbers are gradually going up, which might indicate he simply needs an increase. These are rather sudden, substantial jumps in his numbers. I've seen other spikes in numbers here on the board. Often it's related to something medical, but I think occasionally, those spikes just happen. Maybe??

Ugh. Is anyone else out there tired of worrying over their cat? I told someone today, if I outlive these animals I currently have, I'll never have another one. I'm so tired of worrying over my pets.

To our Canadian friends, Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you've all had a lovely day.

I constantly worry about Leroy :nailbiting: He has so much going on

The bgs are just one part of Jude and doesn't define him. Focus on all of Jude and try to breathe 🤗 How long has the insulin been in use? Are you using pens or bottles?

Oh no, Mary, so sorry about all the unknowns and worry. How is he acting otherwise?

I count me as a member of the "very tired of worrying about my cat" crew. I also don't know if I would get more in the future, maybe I could volunteer at a shelter (famous last words once one gets in my lap...)

He's acting fine, really (and I'm so thankful for that). He's tired, but I'm giving him Gaba and Cystease, and both have relaxing properties. And he did urinate outside his box last week, which was the symptom that led to the assumption he is having an FIC flare. I just find it odd that he was rocking along, nearly regulated in mostly greens, and suddenly he spikes up to the 200-300s. And it's not a bird or a squirrel or another cat swiping him to blame because it's been a few days of this. The vet did say he has some gum inflammation but that his teeth look okay. He had a dental in February. No bad breath. IDK. 🤷‍♀️

I hope he returns to the regularly scheduled program for you! The blockage possibility would worry me too, so I'm glad you're keeping an eye on that. If that doesn't seem to be an issue, like squeem said, I'd see if you can just ride it out as long as he is feeling good (i also know this is way easier said than done). You do such a good job of taking care of your crew, Mary, 🤗

I’m in your camp of worrying too much and being constantly exhausted because of Ivy and her multiple conditions and every BG test or notation, pee, poop, eating or not.
Sigh. 😔
Soooo, all of my vets also have said not to worry too much and just pull back and relax (clearly they don’t listen to me or know me) 😭

I think that’s how we all landed here to hang out with like minded obsessive cat parents who “get it”.

You’re an incredible cat mom and that’s why your crew does so well.
Sending you lots of support and hugs 🥰 💕😻🫂🐈‍⬛🐈

Mary, I'm so sorry you're having to deal with all this stress and worry. You care so much and Jude is so lucky to have you! 🤗

I can, as everyone else has said, understand the worry. And especially for Jude like you've said, who is mostly regulated and in the greens. I had to even scroll up to remember the last time you found a yellow, let alone a pink.

Not sure what advice to give but I think if you keep being attentive and see how the next few cycles go, hopefully something will become more clear. Sending positive thoughts and healing vines if they're needed 🍃🖤
