YESTERDAY'S CONDO:
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=126783

Max was bouncing last night but not too high. I'm not sure if he is going to continue on that road today or not.

I got a call last night that my mom has more issues. It's just not fair. Prayers appreciated. I'm sending prayers and vines to those in need as well.

At our vet visit last week we ran all labs and did a urinalysis which showed +2 glucose in his urine. His glucose was around 250 at the time. My vet said of course it would show that because he is diabetic. Do you find that always is the case or does that disappear when tightly controlled? Do most of you supplement potassium if under 4.0? We are going to recheck it but Marje commented that insulin ca. Cause this as well as kidney disease. Since we aren't dealing with CKDi assume it is due to insulin and wondered if supplementation is the norm. Thanks.

It's nice to see Max slide back down to blue today. I don't know anything about the potassium. Maybe you should put the ? icon on your subject line to get more eyes. Sending prayers for your mom. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Elise

If he is over renal threshold (ECID but 200-250 mg/dL BG; some cats are lower), then he will spill sugar into his urine and it will come up as +1, +2, or +3 generally. It takes time for the sugar to dissipate so even if Max had been in green for a few hours, if the hours previous to that, he was above renal threshold, he would show sugar in his urine. That's why urine testing as a way to determine insulin needs is relatively inaccurate.

Insofar as the potassium goes, unless he's showing wobbliness and his potassium is really low (approaching 3), then I wouldn't worry about it. Gracie's as been as low as 3.6 but it also has been up to 4.7 recently. The day you get the test is just a snapshot and it can change. I discussed this with our IM specialist and he said not to worry about it as long as she is not in CKD, she has no symptoms, and her potassium isn't getting really low (like around 3). You can always discuss it with your vet. I would not start a potassium supplement without a vet giving the ok. Too much potassium can cause as many problems as too little, as you know. It's a fine line and if you supplement potassium, you have to monitor it closely.

Thanks Marje. My vet feels the same way. As for the glucose in his urine at least it came down fron+3 to +2. The last 2 times it was +3. Then again the next time who knows.

It looks like Max is having a later onset and a later nadir or else he surfed steady all day.

Hi Elise. So sorry to hear that your mom has more issues going on - sending vines her way. Max is looking nice tonight! I wonder what he has in mind from here. I hope his breathing issues have been better today.

A long, slow slide into the shallow end of the lagoon. Nice, Max! Now hop up on that surfboard and just hang there, okay? Don't do anyting silly - Mama needs her rest.

Sending tons more healing vines and prayers for your DM, Elise. Many hugs to you, too. Hang in there! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:
