Good Morning LL! Maybe a little bounce yesterday but Tess was feeling pretty good. She didn't want her last meal last night, but she had eaten enough for it not to be a worry. Breffis went down without a problem this morning.

Tess did throw up a hairball yesterday (of course after the vet called) and now we just had another one about half an hour after the Clav. :YMSIGH: OK, new plan. Breffis or dinner, after half an hour Pepcid, another half hour Clavamox. I hope this helps keep it all down.

Tess's vet called yesterday to let us know there was definitely an infection, but the C&S isn't back yet to be sure which one. I hope the Clavamox will be fine and we don't need to start a different one. She said that there is another AB that they are getting in if Tess doesn't keep the Clav down. Also, they don't want her to become resistant to one AB.

Thanks for the the visits last night:
Lisa, I didn't retype Dr. Lisa's whole list, I copied it into a text document, reformatted w/ tab separations and then imported into a new SS. Mostly what I did was reformatting and "Find/Replace" made that pretty easy. Other than that, the only real change I made was to create a separate column for can size and then a column which calculated "kcal/oz" since I use that info a lot. For the shorter list I just made a copy and deleted the food that were too high in carbs and Phos that i knew we would never use. Ella said it didn't open properly for her. Did it work for you? Anyone who can't open them let me know.

Ella, sorry the download didn't work for you. PM me your email address and I can send you a copy of my Mac file. What program were you using to open it? I turned it into an Excel file although I created it in Numbers.

Anne, thanks for the sympathy on the appy. I need to sit down and get straight all the anti-nausea, anti-emetic, appy stimulant meds. I'll be picking your brain.

Marje, DM is a worry, but i think she is starting to realize that this new home is what her life will be now.

WCR All 5 Ps, Clean Plate Club, rainy and cool.

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263

Not a bad AMPS this morning. I'm glad that she's eating on her own. That's always a positive sign! Hoping for a lower surf for you both. Have a great day!

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263

Doesn't look like yesterday was a good day. I hope today will be better. Feel better Tess!!! Healing vines!
The suspect infection at least explains the numbers.
Hope they get that treated quickly .

I'm sorry you DM is having a hard time adjusting.
It's interesting to see who thrives with new folks around and who suffers. We are all so very different.
I don't think I will be a thriver if I have that some day. But my FIL and wife are thriving in their new retirement digs.
He has a whole new audience to talk their ears off. :o  Those poor folks.

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263

Glad to read that Ms Tess is feeling better and you have some news from the vetty. We are happy to have our brains picked about appy issues and meds. We learned everything we know from LL and from Karrie & Maverick and the assisted feeding yahoo group.

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263

Hi guys .. I'm sorry to hear about all the throwing up .. I hope the new med schedule means she can keep everything down .. I hope you get your vetty results back soon so they know what is going on, what type of infection she has .. hang in there, tess will be 100% soon! Have a great day!

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263 +3~309

Ann, hope you can keep the Clavamox since Tess is already on it. Glad Tess is feeling better and sending more feel better and appy vines. Did you rule out the Hi Tor food. None of the local pet stores carry it.

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263 +3~309 +6~277 Orbax?

Hopefully this is a reaction to having that pukus earlier. She didn't want to eat even after 1/4 Pepcid so we syringe fed her the +3 and +6 meals.

Vet called again and the C&S is back, Clavamox is definitely what will work for what she's got! Which is great since Tess is halfway through the treatment already. She said the medication schedule sounds good, but if Tess still has a problem w/ the Clav there is another one they can try. They have just gotten in another AB, Orbax, has anyone used it? I look it up online. It seems like many of the same side effects are possible in addition to blindness!!?? nailbite_smile I need to see what they say about Clavamox too.

Ann, since i can't find the Hi-Tor food I don't want to order a whole case if I don't know she will eat it. Once I found out the first ingredient was by-products I had doubts anyway.

Lisa found an errorin that mixing food SS I put up, I've removed it from yesterday's post and an am re up-loading it here.

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263 +3~309

Ann, I'm glad to hear the Clav is the proper AB for Miss Tess.
Is the Clav actually making her sick, or do you think it's just coincidence that she's getting rid of hairballs now?
I hope it's the latter. Poor girl. Sounds like a good med plan.

Try to have a good evening, Ann

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263 +3~309

HI Ann - stinks the vet said infection, but hopefully the Clav will knock it out and she's already on it. I hope your DM starts to settle in. Big changes can be really tough on some people, but others it seems do really well, like the new phase in their life is just walking through a door to something different and interesting. My grandmothers both did that and it amazed me how mellow and easygoing they could be with changes in life.

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263 +3~309

I'm so glad you finally got the results and are half way through the Clavamox. You know my experience with that. Would covenia work? That's what they finally gave Tarragon a shot of and his appy was back right away. Hugs to you Ann!! Healing vines for sweet Tess!

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263 +3~309 +6~277 +11~277 Orbax?

Typically, you want to give Pepsid 30 min. before food. However, I would check with either your vet or a pharmacist to see how to best sequence the Clavamox and Pepsid. Some antibiotics need the acid environment of the stomach to work properly.

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263 +3~309 +6~277 +11~277 Orbax?

Thanks Sienne. Originally I understood the vet tech to say half an hour before before the Clavamox, but second guessed myself and started giving it before food. I asked the vet when she called today and she said to go back to before the Clav as she is throwing up after it.

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263 PMPS~267 Orbax?

Hmmmmmm, Seinne got me worried so i checked out the Clavamox data sheet, it said nothing about not using antacids and I did find thes
CLAVAMOX is stable in the presence of gastric acid and is not significantly influenced by gastric or intestinal contents.

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263 PMPS~267 Orbax?

I've heard of others using Orbax but have never used it on our kitties. Maybe ask on Health?

I hope she will be able to take all the clav and keep her food down. Poor little Tess girl! I think her numbers are not bad at all considering everything. I hope the UTI is already resolving.

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263 PMPS~267 Orbax?

Hi Ann,
Just a quick note on Orbax (will read your condo more carefully tomorrow, since it is very late).
Rusty was given this after his dental, largely as a prophalactic. I read the list of "reactions", and it scared me. So I called the vet and asked her if it was really necessary to take such chances. She said no. So I never used it.

I'll send you my e mail address if you have the data as a text document. I don't have either Numbers or Exell. (I have an aversion to math/anything to do with numbers!!)

Hope all is well with Tess tonight,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263 PMPS~267 Orbax?

hi - sorry for the late visit, and in being so out of the loop with all that has been going on with Tess. A big thanks to for the excel version of Dr Lisa's list - very helpful. I am grateful you took the time to do it.

No clue on the orbax... never used it or had it recommended. it's always been the Clav here. Mannie tolerates it fairly well. Hope Tess is improving.

Kinda of a flat day for Tess. maybe that means she's contemplating better numbers. paws crossed.

Hope your day has been a good one.

Re: 10/11 Tess AMPS~263 PMPS~267 +3~307 Orbax?

Yes very flat day! At least the clav stayed down tonight, so hoping that the pecid continues to work. Tess still isn't interested in her extra meals, we may try feeding more before the clav for the duration.
