Jude's urinalysis revealed clear, light colored urine with no blood, bacteria, or crystals (in other words, healthy). He has a little protein in his urine, but the vet says that's expected because he's diabetic. The vet saw no reason to send the urine sample for a culture and sensitivity test since he saw no infection. He said Jude's bladder wall does not look thick on the ultrasound. When he examined Jude, the vet noticed some symptoms to indicate that Jude might be having a blockage, but after the ultrasound and urinalysis results, the vet said he didn't see anything further to indicate a blockage, and did not see the need to catheterize or hospitalize Jude. I'm to keep an eye on him. The vet that saw Jude is on call this weekend, so he said to call if Jude shows signs of difficulty urinating, and he will meet me and Jude at the clinic.
So. We're not dealing with a UTI, but it's a very odd set of symptoms if this is an FIC flare because, in the past with Jude, the FIC flares are typically accompanied by blood and protein in the urine, just no bacteria. The vet suspects it's FIC.
The FIC piece of this is all so new to me. It's kind of a baffling issue. I'm going to spend some time on the FIC groups to see what they say.
