10/11 Jude | AMPS 320; +5 211; PMPS 120; +3 102

When I saw the AMPS on your title, I wondered if it was a typo!

Good luck at the vet's and I hope you get to the bottom of it soon. Is there a painkiller shot that the vet can give him?

Jude's urinalysis revealed clear, light colored urine with no blood, bacteria, or crystals (in other words, healthy). He has a little protein in his urine, but the vet says that's expected because he's diabetic. The vet saw no reason to send the urine sample for a culture and sensitivity test since he saw no infection. He said Jude's bladder wall does not look thick on the ultrasound. When he examined Jude, the vet noticed some symptoms to indicate that Jude might be having a blockage, but after the ultrasound and urinalysis results, the vet said he didn't see anything further to indicate a blockage, and did not see the need to catheterize or hospitalize Jude. I'm to keep an eye on him. The vet that saw Jude is on call this weekend, so he said to call if Jude shows signs of difficulty urinating, and he will meet me and Jude at the clinic.

So. We're not dealing with a UTI, but it's a very odd set of symptoms if this is an FIC flare because, in the past with Jude, the FIC flares are typically accompanied by blood and protein in the urine, just no bacteria. The vet suspects it's FIC.

The FIC piece of this is all so new to me. It's kind of a baffling issue. I'm going to spend some time on the FIC groups to see what they say.

The vet didn't mention anything like that this morning. And this was not his regular vet this morning (our regular vet is closed on Saturdays), but Jude's regular vet is prepared to give Jude Bupe, but wants him to try the Gaba first to see if it helps.

Well that’s quite a mystery, Mary.
I’m glad he’s not got a UTI, and no blockage seen.
I hope you can get some answers about FIC to help figure out a treatment plan.

I hope the gaba helps and gives him relief if he’s in any pain.
Sending you both hugs, Mary 💕🥰🫂🍃🍀❤️‍🩹

Well, I'm very surprised by the PMPS of 120. As I was about to test, I was telling myself, brace yourself--it's going to be high, but, surprise! I have no idea why it has dropped so suddenly. I just hope to heaven it stays down. I'm a bit concerned that Jude might have been working on a blockage (see Jude's notes for the symptom the doctor observed), and then when we went to the vets, he voided his bladder (which he always does when they palpate his bladder and do a cysto). So, I'm thinking that perhaps that has made him feel better. It's difficult to monitor litter box habits with more than one cat, so I'm not sure if he urinated on Friday. Or maybe he's just clearing the flare (are the Gaba and all the supplements working?)? The vet also gave him some Clavamox. I'm not fond of using antibiotics when there is no clear purpose, but the vet said it wouldn't harm Jude, and he said that it might help, "just in case my equipment didn't pick up something in the urinalysis."

I posted on the FIC group, but no one has been able to answer my questions. I wish FIC had a group like FDMB. There is a Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease board, but those people (the moderators) scare me 😳 Lots of shaming going on over there. They nearly give ME interstitial cystitis:p

Hoping that his PMPS is an indication that he is feeling better. ❤️‍🩹

Terrible to think that people are shaming others when they are seeking help. 😔
Yeah, it is sad. They're just SUPER strict. If you don't get a culture and sensitivity test when bacteria is present, they freak out. There were times I didn't even know to do that, and I felt so shamed by their reaction that I hadn't made the right decision for Jude. I felt like a bad mommy.

Well, we all know that you are the best mommy. I hate when people make others feel that way. You wouldn’t be on their site looking for help if you didn’t want the best for your baby.

Thanks, Kat! I try, as most everyone here, to do my best to take care of my babies. And I hate it too when people are less than sympathetic when you're asking for help.

I totally agree with your discussion here 🫂
You are an amazing momma, Mary, and it’s just wrong of anyone to be mean or unhelpful when you (we) are humbly asking for help.
💕🥰

Maybe the voiding of the bladder will make him feel better! He has been on Clavamox before, I think? And it doesn't bother him the way it does many cats?

You seem to be doing everything you can for his FIC, but I'll tag @Angela & Cleo nevertheless. I'm not sure which painkiller she uses and at what dose.

He has been on Clavamox several times before and tolerates it fairly well. He's occasionally experienced diarrhea when taking it, so I give him s.boulardii with it.
