Sanofi-aventis just sent me a big manila envelope with all kinds of information about Lantus. I know dosing for most insulins is twice-daily. However, the big thing about Lantus is that it's a 24 hour long acting insulin. Now I'm not a rocket scientist but, should we be shooting Lantus once in a 24-hour period? I mean if people do it why are we injecting are cats twice? I'm just curious and looking for any input. All the while trying to find out about these bouncy numbers. Could it play a part in that?? Just wondering

Cats metabolize insulin faster than humans do, so Lantus works a it differently in them vs humans. How? I have no idea.

If you do 2 different doses, what could happen is the depot can come into play. So your 1u dose could now act as a 1.25u dose because you built the depot up with the prior shot. Lantus loves us to be as consistent as possible when it comes to our sugar kitties. If you're finding that 1u isn't enough but 1.25 is too much, maybe try an in between dose. (I'd use calipers for that... theres a link in my signature if you haven't seen them yet.)

I'm sure others can explain it better... my brain stopped functioning about a half hour ago.
