Apollo's Condo

Good morning. Just posted Apollo's AMBG 134. I did not give him his AM shot as he is not eating at this point in time.

I just got back home from the Vet. Oh man what a day! Well the vet suspected constipation as well as she felt a pretty good size obstruction in him. She decided to give him an enema and he was able to pass a few large pieces with lots of matted up hair inside. She said to keep an eye on him and see if his appetite returns now that the obstruction is gone. She also suggested adding a half teaspoon of petroleum jelly to his food each time to help keep everything flowing smoothly. She also said we may want to add some more fiber to his food to help things move along as well. Apollo and my other 2 cats are constantly licking on each other, so I'm not shocked by the amount of fur in his stool.

So now for the exciting part of the story. There I am driving Apollo home and we're both happy to be on our way home. Then he starts to howl (I know that means trouble). I look over and he is pooping inside his carrier all over the place. (Guess the big "E" wasn't completely done yet). He is standing in poop, unable to get away from being inside the carrier. Of course its nasty, runny and horrific smelling. I am gagging at this point. Then since Apollo was being confined in his carrier he starts to freaks out and vomit all over the carrier. I am trying to keep the car on the road and keep him calm at the same time. Finally I make it home, take him into the bathroom and get him settled. I put down some food, water and his own litter box. Of course I have no cat shampoo in the house, so I need to run and get some to clean him up. That is what I am about to do now.

So he is no longer constipated, but I am still worried as to why he isn't eating. Maybe he hates the food he once liked? I have 3 more varieties to try, wish me luck. Once he starts to eat again I will resume his shots.

Hope you had as much fun as I did this morning!

Re: 10/11 Apollo AMBG 134

Just took his BG and he is at 254. Last shot given was 10/10 AMPS. So I think that would be a +18 of 254.

Still not touching his food. He will ALWAYS eat a purebite treat though, so maybe he just hates the food? I don't know. Be back from the store in a bit.

Re: 10/11 Apollo AMBG 134

oh...what a morning you and Apollo have had!

so good to hear that it was a fur-caused obstruction, though!

Binks used to be the easiest guy in the world when it came to food...but
he's been a unbelievably picky eater since his return from the falls...
so I truly feel for you on the feeding dilemma

Re: 10/11 Apollo AMBG 134

What an experience! The mental images makes ME gag.

The 'e' has made him feel pretty yucky right now....would YOU want to eat if you'd had that then the carrier thing THEN the cleanup? Right now that's probably all he can smell...

Re: 10/11 Apollo AMBG 134

Oh what a morning!1 Not at all fun for you or Apollo, but I must say the way you told it did present quite a picture   I'm glad that was all it was, a humongous hairball.

Kitties do retain the option to refuse their "favorite" food. I hope that's what's going on and you find a new favorite for him quickly. Good luck!!

Re: 10/11 Apollo AMBG 134

Hi guys .. oh my, what a morning you have had! I'm sorry the car ride home wasn't pleasant for either of you .. I hope once everything is cleaned up and calmed down apollo will start eating better for you .. have a great day guys!

Ok just checked his PMBG and he is at 136. Now is it just me or is that amazing considering he hasn't had a shot since 10/10 AM? I was expecting a 300+ number.

He also got a nice bubble bath (2nd time in his life) and is all dry and brushed and smelling better. I hope that helps perk up his mood a bit.

I just tried a different food for PM feeding, Nature's Variety Instinct Chicken Formula and he ate about 2 teaspoons full and went to lay back down. I keep waiting for him to scarf down the food like he does when I give him the purebite treats, but no luck.

I sure hope he starts eating again soon. I want to resume giving him his shots, but he has to be eating first. Maybe it will just take a bit of time for him to regain his appetite after getting the enema, having the carrier accident and getting a bath today.

Oh my...what a day you have had....

and poor Apollo....he should feel better soon though it sounds like.

Pure bits is pure chicken. I sometimes break them up and make chicken dust to put on top of wet food, for Atlas. Sometimes that works to perk up his appetite.

Unfortunately Apollo has learned to just skim the top surface of the food to just eat the purebites dust.

That Apollo, he is a clever guy. What a crazy day! I'm sure he must feel a huge relief.

Do you think some pepcid ac would help? It's been magic for Zener to help settle his stomach and has helped him eat. The recommendation is 1/4 of the 10 mg tablet. You could search the message board for an expert's suggestion on dosing and when it's useful.

what a day Apollo had but so happy to hear he is all clear in the poo department sending lots of feel better vines his way and hope the appetite returns very soon if not you may ask your vet for a appetite stimulant but I bet once he starts to feel better he will eat on his own (((((hugs)))) from Do Lou and I ;-)

Oh my! What an ordeal for you both.

How long has Apollo been off of his food? You don't want inappetance go on for too long -- not more than 48 hrs. You could also consider mixing some of the freeze dried chicken into Apollo's food.

you get my award for the most vivid storytelling of the day! i had total mental images too and although it didn't make me gag, it sure made me chuckle. and think glad it wasn't punkin. poor apollo. i'm sending you both plenty of sympathy too. hopefully that ordeal is over.

sometimes all you can do is laugh, or else you'd be crying!

tuna water, parmesan cheese, oregano sprinkles, regular boiled chicken, rotisserie chicken (punkin says try that one), heating up the food so it's smellier . . . those are tricks i've seen suggested for getting them to eat. i hope he just is off from his tummy troubles and will be back eating soon.

Aw, poor Apollo. What a rough morning. I hope he eats for you soon...hopefully he's just a bit out of sorts after all he wen through and will chow down again once he settles. Thinking about you guys tonight....
