10/9 Racci AMPS-166,+3.5-133,+8-108,PMPS-119

Hi Everyone!

Well another medium high blue to start out with but I'm hoping she might go down today. I had to give her a dose increase since she was taking too long to come down. I'll just get her back where she needs to be and worry about bringing the dose down again later. What's important is keeping her numbers low to prevent damage to her organs and legs since she's such an old girl and has damage from old age as well as the diabetes as it is.

I got to speak to the vet about her test results this morning. (She had taken a long weekend). She answered my questions about the high amylase and lipase counts. The reason they don't pay attention to them being high is because of her age it seems. As they age, they are expected to show some wear & tear on their organs and combined with diabetes, that would explain the high values. The doc did not see any indication of illness and thought she looked great. She said if I wanted to be double sure or saw anything that gave me reason to suspect infection, I could bring her a sample of urine and she would test for a UTI since that would also affect those numbers but she didn't see any indication of it. I have to decide whether to go further based on whether her numbers come down or not I guess. ohmygod_smile

This could only happen to me! The new shipment of food, the 5.5oz cans of food, are loose and gravied like the ones that started the whole food mess!!!!!! The date on these are Sept, 2014. These are the brand new shipments!!!! Now I'm wondering if it's Merrick that's changing the formula??? What do you think?

Hugs,
Melanie & Racci

Re: 10/10 Racci AMPS-161,

Gosh, well Phooey about the food!! I'm so sorry!! That must be so so frustrating! angry(2)_cat

I am so very very happy to hear about the continuing great vet reports though!!
pets to Darling Racci cat_pet_icon

and patience vines to her mama bean while she figures out what the heck is going on with your food :-D

Re: 10/10 Racci AMPS-161,

Hi Melanie, Glad Racci got good results from the vet tests, hope her numbers come down for you. I saw a picture of a cat in costume with nylon stockings and high heels that made me think of Racci and her shaved legs  . Had to be photoshopped, can't imagine putting stockings on a real cat.

Dang about the food, is it possible the ingredients mixture is OK despite the texture? I notice some FF cans are wetter than others. Wish there were test strips for food that show the % carbs etc of the actual batch. We dont use Merrick so I dont knwo if they are changing, maybe their customer service could tell you whats going on. Good luck and hope it turns out to be OK. Enjoy your afternoon!

Re: 10/10 Racci AMPS-161,+3.5-121

Hi Melanie, glad your Vet got in touch with you on the test results and confirmed all is well with Racci. Which flavor Merrick is the problem, I am curious? Is it the chicken? I couldn't get Maggie to barely sniff the chicken for some reason! The Merrick chicken I buy at Petco barely has any juice, and Maggie mashes it down flat onto the plate. I guess that's to tell me what she thinks of it!

Re: 10/10 Racci AMPS-161,+3.5-121

Hi Melanie,
It's good to hear that Racci's results are good. It can be frustrating trying to figure out of test results that are a little out of range are "normal" or not. Hopefully everything is fine and Racci is just being a cat.

That stinks about the food. Like Leslie said, every now and then I get a can of Fancy Feast that doesn't have the amount of juice I'm used to, and a couple times I threw it out because I just wasn't sure. But maybe you're right and they changed something. Did you try Googling to see if anyone else has concerns with a change in formula? Sometimes I'm amazed at the stuff I find online. Especially when I start typing some odd question I have, and google autocompletes the entire odd question because so many other people have asked it!!!

Good luck with the foods cat(2)_steam and have a great evening!
Lisa

Re: 10/10 Racci AMPS-161,+3.5-121

Hi Alexa, Leslie, Ann & Lisa,

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you all. Every time I tried to reply something interrupted me.

Alexa, I am beyond frustrated with the food! I'd like to lie on the floor and throw a temper tantrum. At least it was really good to have an explanation from the vet that made sense! Thanks!

Leslie, The stockings are funny! Her legs aren't done evenly either so it would be really funny. They were shaved down the front mostly so she has these cute little bald knees and a strip under them & trimmed in a few spots on the legs and her butt was shaved. Her feet look like she's wearing fluffy socks sometimes.
I'm sure the food isn't rotten. It smells good & the prima donna was eating it & she doesn't eat anything that isn't right! It's the carbs that have me worried. I'm going to call Merrick, Thanks!

Ann, it's the salmon that Racci likes. For some reason she won't eat chicken in any brand. She mushes them down also! I add water when she does that and then Racci will eat it again. Usually the salmon is nice with just the right amount of juice but there were some that were dry before. I'll have to call Merrick. It's too weird. Thanks. I'm glad the vet called too. It clears up my worries to know that all older cats have those figures off a little but I hate to know that the diabetes affected them too.

Lisa, I didn't try googling but you're right. I have found some amazing answers on google. I should try that too before I call Merrick. I've thrown out tons of food between the merrick and wellness when they changed their food! It's so aggravating. Don't they realize that you can't explain this stuff to cats when you change formulas? Thanks!

Hope you all have a great night!

I can't believe Racci's going to be Sweet Sixteen in 5 Days!!!

Re: 10/10 Racci AMPS-161,+3.5-121,+7-136

Hi Melanie,
I hate that companies are always shooting for new and improved. Always looking for the gimmick to get more customers.
Like fancy feast new breakfast line, sounds poisonous. nailbite_smile
I would definitely call their customer service for information on formula changes and to complain about it too.

I have the opposite problem, doesn't care for fish that much ( only real shrimp) and it has to be mixed with chicken.
Maybe you could eventually get Racci to eat chicken if you mixed it in a slow graduating ratio of chicken.

I hope Racci can slide down and find the green tonite.

Re: 10/10 Racci AMPS-161,+3.5-121,+7-136

Glad that Racci's good vetty report. Oh my,16 years old! Good Racci, come down into the green sweetie!
Sorry about the inconsistancy witht he canned food. could it come from a different manufacturing plant? Like the canned food we are using in this region is mostly coming from Thailand.
My cats are all fish eaters, I do mix in chicken whenever possible. So far Wiskas is pretty good with maintainning their quality.

Moonie is 16 too!! These old gals are the very Best!! Glad vetty said she looks good--
So sorry about the food, if it's not the food, it's the syringes, or the insulin, or the whatever--
Is there no good quality anymore?? ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile
Sending good health vines to sweet Racci--Big Hugs & Love from us!

Hi Rhiannon,

I hate that too! You would think that they would know that cats hate to have changes in their foods. What good is getting new customers if they lose all the old ones? It drives me nuts. I went through this with Wellness and she refused to eat it anymore and now again with Merrick!
I've tried chicken mixed in and cooked every way possible, No luck though.

Hi Helen,

Isn't that something, 16! It's scary. It seems like the other day that I was helping her come out of Calli, a teeny little baby, the runt of the litter. When I think of her age I get worried about losing her.
The food could come from another plant. I'd have to ask to be sure. I'll find out tomorrow. Maybe tonight she'll see green. I won't be able to test once I'm asleep though. I'll have to try to stay awake lonf enough to get one.

Good night you 2!

Hi Roni!

It seems like there's no quality control any more! It's so frustrating. With Racci as fussy as she is, changing foods is not so easy! That's so true. It's always something.; We do have such sweet old girls though, don't we? They mellow out and get so smart and loving when they get older. I know Racci has become so affecctionate and sweet and knows just what I'm thinking. Good health vines to Moonie too!

Hugs back at ya!
