Can I beat him? (I am kidding. could never hurt an animal)
Some mornings it doesn't pay to chew through ones own restraining straps and depart from the bed.
First: Sugar clean up, then I couldn't get a good blood drop and went through 3 alphatrak strips trying to get his numbers and had to switch ears.I think I'm ready to smash that alphatrak 2 monitor with a hammer!
Second: I had a hell of a time getting that evil stupid demonic creature from hell Bubble out of the syringe, and finally
Who the hell thought it was a brilliant design feature to put the little blood sucking pointy things on the sides of the strip instead of the front tip like the Relion??.
It's stuff like this that make people jump off of bridges! cat(2)_steam cat(2)_steam ohmygod_smile  ;-)

Oh my...not an easy start in your house  ! Given the price of those Alpha strips, and the fact that so many of us have caught on to using human meters instead, I have to wonder if it's some sort of conspiracy that sucking up the blood is so challenging   ! I'd stick with the relion....it'll make your morning's easier! Just my 2 cents. As for the bubbles...no getting around it, they are evil.

I hope the rest of your day is much smoother!!!

~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: Some mornings are just like that! i'd go back to a human meter too. i talked to the company rep for the meter i used to use )now discontinued :YMSIGH: ).He said they also make a pet meter and the only difference is in the clibration. Once you know the difference, use the meter w/ the cheaper strips!

What syringes are you using? W/ my Terumo syringes once I tap it to get the bubble to the top, I draw in just a little extra air. Then when I tap it gently again the bigger bubble centers on the needle and I can expel it. Although sometimes It doesn't work and I just take a new syringe.

Hi There! I am pretty new to this board so I don't have much advice but so many people have helped me already. I was just getting into the groove with Simmie and his testing but then I had 3 or 4 back to back mini vacations and I think it set us back quite a bit cause I had to put him into the vet kennel during those times. That has been a nightmare but now that those vacas are over we're working on getting the Simmie better regulated.

ANYWAY! I only stated the opening paragraph so you know who I am! You've got a great group following you and I have to say, your humor is much like mine so I had a natural affinity for ya right from the start. You cracked me up and Simmie took a break from his morning ice bowl to try and figure out who made me laugh so hard.

We empathize with you over horrible morning starts! Simmie has been adjusting to new food and being dragged off the couch or from some of his hiding places for his t/f/s routine. The result of all these changes is that I have been waking up to his runs every morning. And to get my attention, he poops outside his box. For anyone on this board who deals with pet bodily dysfunctions now and then, look into the Bissell SpotBot Pet! We always have it at the ready now for the occasional furball and poo mistake and it's made my life so much better (no, we don't work for Bissell!)
Sorry to laugh at your sugar mishap! I can relate. There is sometimes a downside along with the upsides of sugar kitties getting better. Simmie used to love getting onto high places and knocking down anything he finds from that location onto the floor. Prior to diagnosis he stopped doing that and we breathed a sigh of relief, of course, until we knew why. He just wasn't feeling his old self. Now, that he's slowly starting to get regulated he has begun climbing and pseudo-jumping whenever he can. I had to remember what I used to have removed from our kitchen table:

- books
- bills (he has an affinity for a stack of bills...I think he knocks them off the table as a show of support for us  or just because bills will reduce the amount of cash available to buy his testing treats!
- bowls of honey
-flowers in vases
- and bowls of anything that weigh just a lb. or so less than he...and that means SUGAR! Yep, he's knocked over the sugar bowl but not to get to any treats, just to be irritating! cat(2)_steam

And no, you can't attack them back but I understand the inclination! When he was younger he used to love to irritate us hours before our morning start time so we actually did the same to him! On the weekend he would do what cats do and try to wake us up at around 5:30 (we call the witching hour) even though we didn't have to get up until 8 am...so what did we do, we would wait until he was happy, full from breakie, and sleeping peacefully around 11 am or 1 pm, and then WE would Pounce! We would start tickling him and wake him up from his lovely kitty dreams and start raising our voices saying "See, how do YOU like it! Wake up! Time to Wake Up Stinky-head!". It was so dumb. When we realized how stupid we were being we stopped doing that but we think we got the message across. Anyone else ever do this silly thing?????

Well, I loved your morning story. You are a great mamabean. Simmie say HI and Good Going! to your baby Tess!

Love Lydette and Simmie

Thank you guys. The bubble trick for the syringes is a great idea! I use Monoject 3/10 cc syringes. I am actually a papabean. And Hi back to all of you.
I am glad I could insert a chuckle in to your days. Life is far too short to not have humor and laughter.
His +7 reading was 398 (Imagine that) ;-)
I threw on the floor an empty beer box with an 8" hole in it and Obie (Who is a big cat) managed to wedge his portly buttocks entirely into it.
That cat defies all laws of physics! If he doesn't cure Ebola, defeat terrorism, and help the Kc Royals beat Baltimore tonight, I'm trading him in for a hamster!!! cat(2)_steam

Sorry we made assumptions...it is AWESOME to have a PapaBean here!!

   on Obie's antics....you very well could have a goldmine on your hands  !

No problem at all! That Obie is one of a kind. A long time ago he played fetch with me with a soda bottle cap. He hasn't fetched me a cap in 7 years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGJwXM6iqOM
I uploaded this in 2007 of him playing fetch. Anyways, I've gotta get prepared for all the games tonight. I'm watching 3 different ones at the same time because the scheduling gods put a USMNT Soccer game, A Sporting KC soccer game, and The Kc Royals v Baltimore game on all at once!
If all my teams win I'll forget all about the pounce debacle. confused_cat confused_cat cat(2)_steam

Hi Obie's Papabean!

You know, you could eliminate a little confusion if you added your own name to your signature block. Unless, of course, you enjoy being anonymous and allowing us to make ourselves look silly? ;-)

We all share your frustrations from time to time - that is one of the great things about this forum. You can vent here, and everyone can relate to what you're experiencing and no one judges you. We all need a good rant once in a while, and if this sugar dance doesn't make you need to vent, nothing will!

Obie sounds like a fun cat. I hope he crawls up on your lap and watches your games with you. Nothing lowers blood pressure like a good case of COL! :-D
