It has been a long time since we have posted but thought it was time for an update.

For those of you that don't know Putty (original name was Silly Putty) he has been on insulin for 3 years with a short 4 month OTJ only a couple of weeks after he first started on insulin. He was 5 yrs old when dx and just turned 8 in June. I am told by his vet that he is just beginning his senior years....at only 8!! He had his annual check-up in July and everything looks great. His vet who I love cannot believe how healthy he looks.

His dose has been very consistent. He was on 1.50u of Levemir since June and had a few low 40's so I reduced to a s1.50u. It looks like I may have to drop the skinny. He is a bouncer so he has one good green day, then 3 days of bouncing.

He acts like a kitten most of the time and is still a very silly. His favorite time to play is 11pm to midnight just when all the lights are being turned off. He will come to get me to follow him into the dining room where he crouches down under the table to let me know it is time to play. I am ready for bed by this time but he is too cute to ignore so we play.

He does many things to to get my attention in the morning. He will knock jewelry, tissue boxes, cell phones off the nightstand and when that doesn't work he slams the bedroom door. If that does not get me up he will slam the bathroom door.

My DH does the morning test, shoot and feed routine at 5:30 am since he leaves very early for the gym and work. I am usually still in bed so DH will come kiss me which makes Putty mad. He will run up the bed onto my pillow and lick my hair trying to cover my head hitting DH with his paw. He can be very sweet. cat_pet_icon

There are a lot of names I do not recognize so I have a lot of catching up to do.

I love your post, Miriam, especially about Putty protecting you from the DH
Hope to see you around, some more. Have a good day.

Welcome back! Putty sounds like he is doing well, he is still young. 8 isn't a senior cat by any means, his behavior is his way of proving how wrong the vet is.

Hi guys .. What a nice update on putty! Sounds like all is right in his world .. he get's his mommabeanz to play with him and he get's to protect her from his daddybeanz! What a sweet boy ..

welcome back! good to get to know putty a little bit - sounds like he is quite a character! that's too funny about how he knocks off your stuff to get your attention and then tries to prevent the DH from getting to you. sounds like he's jealous! it's good to be loved!

hope putty settles down for you on the dose, but it's good to see you! post away!

Hi Miriam,

Thanks for the update on Putty. Just goes to show that life can go on fairly normally with FD, just as with human diabetes. Glad things are going well. Tell Putty that Barry (another old-timer) sends headbutts and purrs.

I never quite understood the age that vets consider a cat to be a senior. Maybe it does make sense given how so many cats die at such a young age from CRF, cancer, diabetes and such. If cats were fed like a cat is meant to eat, I wonder if that number would change. I definitely don't consider my cats to be "seniors", except for Scottie who is in her mid to late teens.

Hi Miriam!!!

We've missed you and so glad to see you posting about Putty. What a great report and I'm glad he's doing so well and is feisty and happy. He's such an absolutely handsome guy.

I still keep my paws crossed that he will one day stop bouncing and go you-know-where  but it sounds like you all have a great routine and everyone is happy.

Sending you big hugs!!! Hope to see you around more.

I've missed Putty -- and you, too, Miriam!! Where has Polite Officer Putty been keeping himself?

I hope you'll visit more often, especially since that pesty daughter of yours decided to go away to college!

Miriam & Putty--So so glad to see you here & know that Putty is well!!
You have helped me so much over the years, and have been a friend..
Putty is not a old timer.. He's a treasured timer!
We miss you & are always happy to see you & Putty here...
Glad to see he's still washing your hair    Hugs & Love from Us!!

Nice to hear from you Miriam and Putty sounds like he is doing really well. I love how he shuts the bedroom and bathroom doors...my kitty, Cleo, does the same thing. Nothing like a slamming door to wake you up from a deep sleep. And how protective Putty is from your DH. What a jeolous kitty! Welcome back!

Hi Miriam and Putty, so nice to see your condo. I got used to seeing you so early on the Board. I think of eight years old as still kitten like, too! Maggie is 13 and still so playful at times. That's great Putty has a good health report card. We wish you both well and hope to see you soon. Scritches to Putty.

What a wonderful update for Putty... though with his reaction to your DH loving on you, I wonder if he finds Officer Putty to be polite!

So glad to see a post from you!!

Hi Miriam & Putty,
Great to see a Putty condo. I would consider 8 years old to be an "adult" cat, not "senior". (I consider myself to be "adult", too, not "senior"). Putty looks terrific. Keep on enjoying your routines, Officer Putty. Law officers have to have good routines even more than the rest of us!

See you again soon,

Ella & Rusty

Nice report on Putty! He sounds awfully irresistible!!! I remember hearing that cats are techinically seniors when they turn "7". Bah!! I don't buy it!

Polite Police Officer Putty says thank you for all the nice responses...... and Miriam says, "I thank you all for visiting our condo. I have not been here for a while but realize how much I miss everyone. I will be back tomorrow to post since I will have more time."
