Hello!!

Yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=126707

Busy day, late condo! Today was Billie's first 1x day dose of pred. She did have a coughing fit this afternoon, but it wasn't as bad as the pre-pred fits. I hope the tapering works out, but I am not banking on it working out. We'll see what happens. I will be watching her numbers closely as we taper. I was nervous tonight because I was trying to get home for +3 and didn't get home until +4, but she wasn't low, thank goodness.

I did something potentially stupid today, but luckily it didn't end badly - I was out running errands with DB and I realized that I had left out a bowl of cereal that still had milk in it!! It's likely that Billie is allergic to dairy, so that would have been bad news. I was doing work on my computer in bed and eating cereal in bed (the joys of working from home), and I never brought my bowl to the sink! We rushed back, and luckily, Billie hadn't found it. She probably didn't think to look in bed for milk. If she had gotten to it, the bowl would have been beyond empty, so I knew we were safe.

Overall, she's still acting like she feels good. Plenty of playing and purring. Good appy. She woke me up by combing my hair with her paws today cat_pet_icon but now she's mad at me because we had a bit of a scuffle while she was getting her pred. Up until tonight, I have been mixing it in pork broth with fortiflora, and she has been drinking it - so easy! But tonight, she was not interested in that at all, so I had to try my best to pry her mouth open and squirt. It all went down the hatch, but she was very unhappy with the situation. Sorry Billie!! I have a lot of respect for everyone who has to deal with pilling every day

I found a different kind of paper litter that I am trying mixed in with Dr. Elsey's, and so far, the girls are okay with it. It's called Exquisicat, and I found it at Petsmart. The consistency is a bit beadier and less pellet-like than Yesterday's News, so it's a little less weird. I'm going to try to transition to that completely over the next few days, and we'll see if they approve.

Sending lots of vines to all the cats and beans needing vines tonight!

Hi Deanna

Looks like it could be a teensy PJ party tonight. Good luck with the pred reduction...hope she will not cough as you decrease it.

Sorry to laugh about the cereal   glad she didn't find it. Poor girl on the meds tonight....hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Have a great night!

I'm sending vines that the taper off the pred goes well. It is so hard dealing with all this. I'm so glad she didn't find the cereal and milk.

The worst thing about the cereal incident was probably how much you stressed from the time you realized you'd done it until you got home and saw Billie hadn't found it! nailbite_smile Been there, done that ! ohmygod_smile

I, too, hope that tapering off the pred does not increase the coughing. I have discretion to take Minka back and forth between one tablet every third day and every other day, as needed. I had to increase to the every other day a couple of weeks ago, and the coughing almost disappeared. I was all set to decrease again and she had three coughing fits in two days! Darn! I constantly worry about her getting diabetes from being on pred so long. She's been hanging around the water dispensers a lot lately, so with dread in my heart I poked her ear this morning.......70! Whew!! One less thing to stress over - for now.

The brand of newspaper litter we used was Exquisicat. It was cheaper than Yesterday's News, so we tried it. As I told you before, not a big success. I hope you have better luck.

BTW, it's so nice to see I'm not the only one that posts condos at night!! But I'm still the Queen of the Late Condos!

Marje, Elise, and Tricia, thanks for stopping by!!

Marje, It is totally fine to laugh at the cereal!! Tricia, you are absolutely right - it was a very long 15 minute car ride to get home and I was in nailbite_smile mode. My boyfriend was driving, and he kind of drives like a little old lady while I drive like someone who lived in Boston for 4 years, so I was on the edge of my seat trying very hard not to be a jerk  In the end, I was super relieved.

I thought we might have a bit of a PJ party, but she turned it around.

Tricia, sorry to hear about Minka's coughing. It is scary to see them cough! That's awesome that her BG is at 70. It sounds like her pred dosing isn't too heavy, so hopefully she'll stay nice and green!
