Good evening LL,

Yesterday's condo is here.

Thank you Marje and Julie for your help last night. I will get onto the vet on Monday - I should have done it today but I was a day ahead of myself and thought it was the weekend already. This is what comes from dividing your sleeping in to halves after each round of testing. I'm very confused about what was this mornign, before my sleep or yesterday! I was really tired this morning so I decided to hold off on increasing till tonight and get more rest.

I increased to 1.1 units. I printed out the template for BD Ultra-Fine needles today - that's a great tool. I'm lucky that those are the needles we use (they're also the only ones available here). I had just been eye-balling the doses before that.

Angie's appetite is back and her back is improving.

I'd just be sure to get at least one test in the evening cycle (before bed) just to see where she's headed and that when she's coming down, especially like tonight when it's a big drop, be sure you get another test, if possible, to make sure she has flattened or come up a bit. A great example is what you did on the night of 10/8.

- I was worried the vet would proscribe anti-inflammatories for her back injury. They did that when she broke her sturnum (jumping maybe three feet up and across from the couch to the television, and falling onto the corner of a side table). But that was a worse injury.

- I don't feel like an experienced care giver - Angie has only actually been home tested for less than 3 months in total but divided in three, over the year and a half we've been on FDMB. I feel comfortable with dose reductions (because we've done a few of those) but these last two weeks have been the first dose increases for us ever.

- Thanks for that extra help on when to test. I'm sure you've been telling me that all along but I think I understood better. I was looking out for numbers that were low but not necessarily numbers that were low in comparison to the previous number. It seems obvious now.

Julie - thanks for your explanation of the difference between fighting to keep her bg up and keeping her surfing. Yes it makes sense. I'll try it out... if she ever gets close to under 50.

Healing vines to the cats and beans in need and big hugs to the extra-special people who give their time, helping others manage this disease. I don't think Angie would be alive today without you.

Re: 10/10 Angie pmps=355

I hope Angie is feeling better today and you can get caught up on some sleep this weekend. Being sleep deprived can definitely get us confused. Have a great weekend.

I was just reading Bridgette's thread and it got me thinking about Angie. She's got 4 wobbly legs, particularly at the wrists. I asked the vet about it and she thought it could be loose ligaments. She didn't think it was diabetic nuropathy because it started earlier this year while Ang's blood sugar was still under control.

There are other conditions which cause weakness in the legs, such as electrolyte (mineral) deficiencies.

Does anyone know if you can get a blood test to check for these deficiencies? Are there any in particular electrolytes to ask the vet about?

Thanks so much, again!

Grace

If the potassium is out of range, that can cause mobility issues. That should be part of the regular bloodwork. When did Angie last get BW tests? It's also something that should only be supplemented under direction of your vet.

A lot of older cats also get arthritis. Sometimes the vet can feel thickening of the joints, especially in the hocks. Sometimes it needs an x-ray for diagnosis.
