Hello!!
Yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=126195
Billie had a couple of awesome, basically cough free days. But, last night/this morning around 4am, she started coughing again, and it sounded phlegmier/louder than it did before. She had a long coughing fit followed by hacking coughs on and off and some hiccuping. I also heard phlegmy sounds in her purring after the coughing episode. I don't know what to make of it. I set up an appointment with the internal medicine specialist (Tuesday - the soonest we could get in) because her allergy vet said that would be the next step if I am concerned about the cough. I'm hoping last night was just a flare up and it keeps getting better, but if not, we'll keep the appointment.
She has been better since the early morning episode. I've heard her cough a few times, but it didn't sound as violent as it did this morning. Her purring sounds normal again, and her breathing seems normal. I hope it was just a one time thing. :YMSIGH: nailbite_smile She doesn't have any new hives, which is different because the hives and cough have gotten better/worse in tandem for the most part. She ate fairly well today, but she seems pretty sleepy.
If the coughing keeps up, I will probably take her to her regular vet tomorrow. If she coughs like she did this morning again, I think she needs some medicine to address it while we figure out what's going on. I know that steroids are the go-to meds for coughing, and I want to avoid that because of her FD, but I also want her cough to get better. It is tricky. I have the albuterol syrup in case of an emergency, but that is only meant to be used if she is open mouth breathing or really struggling to catch her breath, and she's not. I ordered Allerplex, but it's not here yet. I'm just stressed and in worry overdrive. I wish she could just tell me what she would prefer.
Sending vines to all the cats and beans needing vines!
