Well, if this is a bounce, it's looooong and in slow motion.

I have been in communication with the IM vet talking about Cabergoline. I sent him the peer-reviewed article:

He wrote to say,

"I have read the article, there is promise there.

...The results of this study suggest that cabergoline as a monotherapy was effective in reducing IGF-1 excess in one-third of diabetic cats with HST and in normalizing IGF-1 concentrations in 26% of cases. Cabergoline improved diabetes control and was associated with remission of DM in 35% of cases. This DA is relatively inexpensive and easy to administer, and should therefore be considered as a possible treatment option for diabetic cats with HST, especially in those cases with a relatively small pituitary tumor…

The side effects were minimal but hypoglycaemia is a concern (although I do not think where you are involved). [He's saying this as he has no experience with Cabergoline but I know this, especially from everyone here).

I do not know how effective it will be in Eddie but I’m willing to try if you are aware that there are many unknowns and it may not work.

Do you know what pharmacy carries the drug and in what size the drug is offered?"

Somewhere I saw information on the dose. There is a pharmacy here in the Okanagan that can either provide tablet or compounded version.

The fact he is willing to even consider Cabergoline is a major shift in his thinking.

As I've said, I'm beginning to consider Cabergoline more seriously and would appreciate your thoughts. @Wendy&Neko

Please make sure you are not grasping at straws. :bighug: IAA and infection (ie. needs a dental) can also cause a need for higher doses. Cabergoline will do nothing for that.

For some cats, cabergoline impacts hard and fast. I've seen cat's including Melissa's have a pretty scary ride own the dosing scale. Marvin was amazing and a very hairy time for Nat, given she had to work too. Check out his SS, starting 6/23/2017. See how much she tested, could you do that too to keep Eddie safe? Note almost no two cats are alike on how they react to cabergoline, so don't set any expectations should you go this route. Especially given how unique Eddie is in treatments.

Perhaps I am grasping at straws. Perhaps not. The point is I am not so concerned with numbers as I am with what those numbers imply. It may not be possible in the long run for Eddie to be anesthetized for a dental. His IAA may persist. His IGF-1 may or may not go an indicator. Of course I re-read JL's post but the point is, like JL I am also researching, asking questions, trying to determine what is best for Eddie, this individual with whom I live. Sure, when Blue went into remission that was fantastic. Eddie's tumour was much, much larger than Blue's. And at that they were able to surgically "remove" only 60%. The SRT sessions were trying to manage that excess. I know Eddie is not happy at all when his BG is high. He doesn't interact and he more or less keeps to himself on his bed. I've seen him in the blues and greens and he is a different cat. I know he is happy and feeling good. The point is, because "almost no two cats are alike on how they react to cabergoline", I can only go by living with Eddie. On the one hand, we make the point that ECID, while on the other hand research and rely upon peer reviewed articles on tests done on N=how many cats and try to extrapolate from there.

I know and I don't know. Is the tumour active again? I could get an IGF-1 and that might tell something. I could increase to 14u today but it also seems each increase brings the same story. I just know that relatively speaking, Eddie seems very unhappy as his numbers go up.
