Why are you stalling? Numbers can drop further without food. Can you monitor if you shoot?

I thought you stall to see if numbers rise on their own and if insulin is wearing off....

I'm working from home today, so yes, I can monitor.

You think I should go for it? Should I feed her 5.5%, 9%, or 14% for breakfast?

No. If you can monitor, then you can shoot any number over 50 without stalling. And you have experience with handling lower numbers.

Feed normal LC and test at +1 and feed accordingly. She might just head up in a bounce.

@Bandit's Mom

Glycobalance doing great work, she bumped up to 68. I gave her 0% with this test to hopefully ride these low numbers out....

Let me know if you think I should hit her with some carbs, I'll give her another tsp of something. I have every percent, tons of options. LOL

Back at +3 unless I hear otherwise.

Another lovely cycle today. An example of shoot low to stay low.
I thought you stall to see if numbers rise on their own and if insulin is wearing off....
FYI - she got down to the 50's during last night's cycle, so that 79 was a clear indication of numbers rising. If you hadn't seen any numbers below 79 last night, and you were new to shooting greens, that might have been a stall situation. I'm hoping shooting greens becomes an even more common occurrence now. :D

Just a bit of advice. It looks like you test, shoot and feed. We recommend Testing, Feeding and then Shooting.

The reason for this is because what would you do if you tested and shot and then she decided she wasn't going to eat?

We usually test, feed (to make sure they're at least willing to eat), and shoot, usually with their head in the bowl. I got to where I could T/F/S all in less than 5 minutes as long as China liked the food she had been offered that day.

Looking good there Kona! Keep it up (or down?) :D;)

I do the same, but I wait about 10 minutes or so till I shoot. My thought is what if she won’t eat or barfs it right back up and won’t eat.
Everyone has their own methods. :cat:

I have never heard this. I do exactly what Jason does. What you say makes sense though. It has happened recently with my cat a couple times. He ate either a few hours after shot or I had to leave and he was mad and hadn't eaten yet. He was high, so i wadnt super worried. Definitely something for me to think about.

Great point, Wendy, thanks so much. I'm looking forward to shooting more greens. I'm slightly worried about shooting green tomorrow since I have to go to work, but I have a plan and two 4 meal, auto-feeders.

Hi Chris, thanks so much for the advice. I have a routine with Kona where she comes to me on the floor where I give shots, I put her between my legs and give her shots while she faces outwards. She has associated the shots and being compliant by getting her meals. It has worked out great for us for the longest time.

The main reason why I shoot first is because she takes FOREVER to eat. I really try to get her shots within minutes of the same time each time for consistency.

I tried giving her shots while eating with head in the bowl, but she doesn't go for it. She jerks... I've tried a few other positions in giving her shots, but our current routine has been flawless.

I only had troubles getting Kona to eat she was put on the stupid Vet prescription diet, Royal Canin, that she untimely got burnt out on.

I know this is risk, but Kona has been a pretty good eater as she gets her fancy princess foods that cost me an arm and a leg. I have a ton of different flavors and snacks.

Thanks for your support! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Bhooma said...you've got this. Do your thing. I love it.

Jason,
I am very proud of you. I hope you are proud of you too. Don't you love that the cats are completely oblivious to it all. It cracks me up.

Good job, Kona.

So funny you say this, I was just taking the trash out and was thinking about last night and I swear Bhooma has told me like 4 times now ... "what are you doing?? SHOOOOT" "why are you stalling, SHOOOT" " SHOOOOOOT"

The fear got me and I froze, it helps having someone remind you to man up! LOL

I am proud and hopefully it happens more so I don't lose the courage.
