Good Morning Lantus Land! While I don't keep late, late hours like the rest of you...I did stay up for the "dreaded plus 5" last night. So I am pouring the ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) this morning with the 5am wake-up call.

Purring....lots of purring this morning, piddles, and poo's done, a bit of preening and playtime has been underway for quite a while. We had a timeout just long enough to eat. I guess this afternoon I'll have to rehide the meeces. I think they all made their way to the bed or bedroom last night!!

No Gary visit yet this morning, but it is still early. I'll go out and sweep the back step so he will have a dry place to sit to eat. Last night before he was fed, he sprayed the doorstoop! :o . Some things never change. Still as wary and nervous as last year too.

The snow plow has already been down the street...noisy thing anyway....It is still snowing and will for the next two days with an arctic clipper blowing through over the lake. As much as I do like the big fluffy flakes of December and Christmas snow like a postcard...this kind of snow is the tiny flakes of very cold upper air. As day breaks across the nature's new blanket it will sparkle like diamond dust.

Now for figuring out what new meter to get. I have finally decided the aggravation with the Relion Ultima isn't worth it. 5 strips last night and way too many pokies to get one reading. I doubt it is me, but it is not fair for Attie. And this morning his earsy is pretty badly bruised up...even with neosporin and direct pressure. This morning I was greeted with complaints and I can't blame him. Having to constantly use the lancet at the full setting to get enough blood for finicky test strips is not good. Last night I could even feel the lancet actually piercing through the ear. Today we're taking a break on all those pokies.

And I am once again up for meter suggestions. And what the test strip pricing needs to be reasonable. My business hasn't turned a profit yet and I put in several job applications looking to pick-up some part-time work. Like any new small business we're still bleeding red. ohmygod_smile Which we knew this going in...that the first year would be very, very tough.

Re: 1/8 Atlas 243

Hi Blue,
A lot of them here seem to use the Relion Micro. I can't remember - did you have the strips recalled and get a call from Abbott? I'm not of much help as I use the Alpha Trak, as it's closest to my Vet, and he sees her ss. There is also the Accu-Chek Aviva which is a very good meter, but strips are kind of pricey. I know; I hate when I can't get a drop from Maggie and her poor ear!

Oh.. I could get the drop, it was just that the strips fouled up! I've been complaining about the strips for a little while, but last night was just the end of it for me! Watching the blood be sipped all the way up and nothing...like the meter didn't even recognize there was blood in the strip. I finally just squeezed the strip and got a reading. The bad strips were already returned, but I think they have more of a quality issue going on than just the recalled lots. I have not had to struggle so much as in the last few weeks to get readings.

Hocks appears to have a very nice price on the strips for the Accu-chek....

Thats poetic. I love the snow when it sparkles. I love shiny things. I think I'm part crow

I use the One Touch Ultra and am very happy with it and with the company that makes it. Whenever I have a complaint they are there to help me, and if I need a new meter they send me one pronto. I have never paid for one of their meters.
I buy my strips from EBay, and do sometimes wonder if I am bidding against my fellow FDMB family members

Re: 1/8 Atlas 243

Good morning.....

I too use the One Touch Ultra.......and the readings are very consistent for me....The strips are a bit pricey though....get mine through Hocks.

Re: 1/8 Atlas 243

I'm holding my breath to see what today's cycle looks like. Don't disappoint me, Atlas!

I've been wanting to try the new Freestyle Lite strips (supposedly they need a teeny drop AND sip fast), but they are pricey. I love my Aviva but it does require a bit more blood than the Freestyles do. I don't like my old-style Freestyle because it sips way too slowly. Contour sips pretty fast too but they are also expensive. I had an older WalMart meter and didn't like it. I guess that's no help!

Morning Libby, I'm sort of holding my breath too....bounce, no bounce...I can tell you the playing that started before 5am is continuing here 3.5 hours later...lots of shenanigans going on. We had breaks for breakfast, minimeals, and a power nappy too.

I did just look at the freestyle lite on-line. It is the smallest drop of blood needed my any meter and the ad said the strips drew it in like a magnet. Considering the number of wasted strips right now with relion...it just might be worth the extra money.

Tena & Diana ...good morning to you too. One Touch Ultra eh?

Plus I had 3 inquiries for work pop up in my email box! Seems lots of folks are holding up this weekend and planning their mid-winter getaways!!! Plus, just had my first review on Angie's list....very proud of the review and well...gosh darn it...

I need to work on my blog topic for tomorrow too...work on and tomorrow are the easy part....topic...yeah...

Re: 1/8 Atlas 243

More of those blues and greens, Atlas!!

I use a Bayer Contour. The strips are less than the Accu-check -- the Contour strips are around $26 for 50 at Hocks. I've been really happy with the meter and it was well rated by Consumer Reports. A couple of people here are using the Infinity meter that they got at Hocks. The strips are pretty inexpensive ($16.50 for 50).

Re: 1/8 Atlas 243, +4 197

Nice, nice, nice....looks like Attie wants permission for a flight to Texas today!! I told him we'd have to check to see what delays are at the airport....

"Silly bean doesn't she know FD kitties have special travel arrangements and if need be they can wave their cattails and make some majic. ~~Attie

Re: 1/8 Atlas 243, +4 197

Really they were sleeping...honest they were...

OMG...more play-time?!

I know Attie is feeling better in the numbers, but he is an old man!

Re: 1/8 Atlas 243, +4 197

  totally enjoying the poetry and laughter in your condo today!!

i love the relion micro...tried nova max, and aviva and relion ultima...but they didnt work well for us...

could have been operator error, though...

do you have a link to your blog/website? love to see it if you do!

Re: 1/8 Atlas 243, +4 197

In Canada - But I had a friend ship me the Relion Contour and I love it. Sips super fast. But I do get extra blood massaged out of his ear just in case. I'm very happy with it. We have the achucheck aviva nano also but strips were like 90$ for 100. The contour works just as well as that.

Great day for Attie!!!!!!

Re: 1/8 Atlas 243, +4 197

Nice numbers! Attie is doing so well, you must be pleased Beth!

Sorry about the test strips, I use the Relion Confirm (isn't that what you have too, Karrie? The Contour is made by Bayer, not relion.)...the Confirm and Micro use the same strips, only need 0.3 mcl of blood and the strips are $20/50. I'm very happy with it, works well. I have a Bayer Contour, haven't tried it yet...I'll do that when I get a minute and let you know how they compare. The Contour takes a bit more blood, but still a small sample size.

The Infinity from Hocks sounds like a good deal, you can get free shipping so it would work out cheaper than Relion.

The only issue I have with the Relion is that I have an AWFUL time getting test strips, they seem to be unable to stock adequate amounts consistently at my Walmart, in spite of my repeated (polite) complaints. Now, they see me coming and go get them off the pharmacy shelf before I even ask...IF they have any!

Re: 1/8 Atlas 243, +4 197

I am really liking that FreeStyle lite meter with the new tabbed test strips. I'll get out to the store to really take a look at one this weekend. But, the idea of a really small drop of blood and a zipwik tab....

and of course Hocks prices can't be beat...

Re: 1/8 Atlas 243, +4 197

How crazy is this...
Walgreens has the Freestyle lite kit for $15.99
Hocks price 60.99

Walgreen Test strips 72.99
Hocks test strips 27.99

Re: 1/8 Atlas 243, +4 197, +7 149

That is very crazy!!! I also have an Ultra One Touch Mini and love it...small and requires just a dot of blood. I also get my strips on ebay but I'm not patient enough to bid....I just find one that is selling huge quantities for $20/box or so and buy in bulk.

Attie is looking great!!!

thanks...we're working on it. I'm not sure what changed with him, but it appears to be good...Just the other day I was finally to the point of ...he does this or not...I'm done stressing over him...and within a few days.... :!: :?: :?: :!: :?: :!: :?:

I think Sienne told me to just hush...tip-toe...and :-D

Edit: Walgreens also had the Bayer Contour kit for $9.99....!!!

Strips were 129.99 for 100!

Re: 1/8 Atlas +11 121 PMPS 86

Looks like we'll be surfing some greens for a bit this evening... ~O)

Attie will be boarding his flight to Texas shortly as we drudge out into the snow...

Im not sure if your last post implied you bought the contour or not???

I used contour, and a month ago received a freebee kit I had ordered when I was in dire need of strips. Lovely timing, eh?
Anyway, i could send it to you if you wanted to try it. I could also send some extra strips to you. I always got my strips off ebay. Prices are up right now, but still around $35-40/100. If you are good at auctions, Im sure you could do better.

I really liked the contour after trying a few different ones. I kept the walmart one as back up (hated it...but that's just me).

PM me if you want the kit and some strips so you can try it out.

Carolyn thank you so much for your offer and generosity. I am still investigating my options on meters at the present time and am leaning towards one of the freestyle lite meters with the new zipwik strips. I was just sort of stunned to see such a huge variance in prices and I guess my snow day paid off with a bit of research.

Well it is tuck time in our snowbound home for the weekend.

Late nite snacks have been, a good day overall with lots of fun and play. Chase and climbing and bird watching and mouse tossing ....along with a few power naps and then some hide and seek...my they were very busy today. This evening we had a few LB trips, good drinks of water from both cats, and now it looks like it is time to tuck everybody in for the evening.

It is a brutal cold out there tonight, we're already down to 14F. We did double hotsocks in the lodge for Gary....and we're supposed to get a foot of snow overnight.

Nite Nite All
