Sid's bloodwork came back and the numbers - high WBC, borderline anemia, low absolute reticulocyte, high Absolute neutrophil seg etc indicate possible lymphoma or some sort of growth that is probably malignant due to the speed with which Sid is declining. On Monday I have an appt at a specialist scheduled for a scan, which I hope will reveal something. Sid is in no condition for surgery or a biopsy though according to the vets. His BUN and CRE numbers have improved - 54 and 1.0 so that is good. His glucose levels have still been on a rollercoaster and he either does not respond at all to the insulin or he over responds. I am giving him .75 units. I copied his blood work below. There is no indication of pancreatitis.

(((Lydia))) I am so very sorry to hear this. When my Teddi Bear (civvie) was diagnosed with lymphoma, one of the big tip-offs for them to start looking in that direction was her WBC was really high. The thing that also stands out to me like a sore thumb is his phosphorus. I am thrilled to see his kidney values have come down; but his phosphorus is not only out of normal range, but an adult cat should be more in the 3-4 range. The normal range includes kittens who have higher phosphorus levels. So I'd ask the vets about that esp considering his renal values have come down so nicely.

Sending more healing vines and keeping you all in our prayers.

I'm so sorry there's not better news about Sid. We will be thinking of you and keeping all paws crossed.

I'm sorry you don't have good news. I know from the Yahoo feline assisted feeding forum - there are many cats with lymphoma diagnoses that do quite well with scary diagnosis. One cat has defied the odds on large cell lymphoma (in their success stories). There is an active lymphoma group and you'll get knowledgeable advice here from those members that have fought this. I want to say that I will keep you and Sid in my thoughts and I'm sending you hugs. My dad's name was Syd - so Sid gives my heart a tug.

Thanks Karrie for the advice about the lymphoma group. I think I will join that. I am already a member of the FAF group as I've assisted fed a couple of my cats so far (Jake, Chocolate, and Charlie).

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. I will do everything I can for Sid. He is such a great little guy and he has only been with me for about 6 months. This is absolutely not fair at all. I keep thinking that maybe there will be a treatment or something we can do. Maybe it really isn't any kind of lymphoma or cancer and it's only a matter of time before his glucose is under control. I can hope, right? Well, but that might be part of my problem. I never give up hope and it is really hard for me to know when I should. Right now I'm thinking of the Emily Dickinson poem that goes something like:

Hope is the thing with feathers
that perches in the soul
and sings the song
without the words
and never stops at all

I am so very moved by Sid's story, as I am by the video of him playing in the hallway. Such a sweet little cat. Thank you, Lydia, for all you've done and continue to do for him. The poem is lovely, and I'm going to hope right along with you. :YMHUG:
