Yesterday's Condo

At least Gabby's numbers are sunny (although, I'd prefer blue sky) because it's gray and snowing here. So here's my usual winter whine: I hate snow. We have 3 - 5 inches (shouldn't complain given how much snow some of you have gotten). All of the schools are closed. Unfortunately, where I work never closes.

Where is the happy medium - it was 111 here yesterday!

The next time Purrdy is at the vet, I'd have him checked for arthritis. You could also try the equivalent of Cosequin (it's a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement) that helps with joint health and at least this product is formulated for cats. I don't know if it's available in Australia though. Has the vet definitely said that he has neuropathy?

The vet is hoping it's neuropathy since his FD dx (I have my doubts because his numbers weren't that high), before that they suspected and probably still suspect that he injured himself and had fibrocartilaginous embolisms (FCE aka spinal cord strokes which are rare in cats) - twice. When mum picked him up from the cattery back in September she noticed that he was walking knock kneed and lower to the ground. It seemed to me that whatever it was the nerves were involved so we put him on the B12 on the basis that it wouldn't do any harm and he also had some physio and exercises & massage for mum to do with him. At that point he had blood tests and I later found out that his BG was up close to 200 but the vets had put that down to stress at the time. He improved a little but the next time he went to the cattery, around October, he came back walking right down on his hocks, and has not improved at all since then. He has no spring to jump up, only walks a few paces at a time and can be pretty wobbly but he doesn't seem to be in any pain. If his problems have been caused by FCEs (and the symptoms do fit) then my understanding is that any improvement that could have happened would have already happened and that he won't get any better. Hence the idea at the moment to treat it as if it is neuropathy since that may be fixed (have you heard of any kitties getting it with numbers that low?). Given how it has onset I don't think it's arthritis, he was fully mobile without any issues prior to the first incident in September.

Thanks for your input Sienne. It's breaking mum's heart to see him like this. Unfortunately I suspect it's something that she'll have to get used too :(

I hear ya, Sienne....you know my thoughts on s***!!! We're getting a dusting today, and that is way more than I care for !!! Hopefully the snow will pass quickly, and Gabby will look for blues and greens. Have a great day, Sienne!

No kidding! I think her pancreas got tired.

Generally,it's a little warmer in Columbus than Chicago. The jury is out on the winds. We ha a couple of very windy days but, there's noting like gale force winds off of the lake.

3-5 Inches of snow and the schools close??? From this former midwesterner, that isn't even shovel weather!

Now, Gabby, back to work. You, little girl, didn't get the day off! Down you go.
