Yesterday

Another morning in the yellow. Cobb snuck up into the pink last night, but not that far, except his +2. But he did eat at shot time so maybe that was a food spike.

All 4 Ps are in place. He doesn't seem to mind these lower numbers. Most of yesterday he napped in the sun on the guest bed. Every time I walked in he was purring, so I'm guessing he has no complaints.

Its going to be in the single digits tonight, so I'm expecting a full bed with baby and cat. Not sure I'll get much sympathy from those of you digging out of this snowstorm. You would laugh at our "Winter Weather Alerts" on the news. And schools canceled because of the threat of less than an inch of snow. I'm hoping it was because of the cold temperatures, although it's supposed to be in the upper teens. We (Southerners) can't handle those cold temps! Matt is from NY so he just laughs at us. I do have an adorable little snowsuit for Marty but I don't want to take him out in the cold either!!

I like the shift in Cobbs SS...we are starting to see a nice downward trend! You are doing great with him, Suzanne. You must be exhausted with the baby and the testing.

Mike and I joke that we never had kids so we got to sleep all night during our younger years but now the "revenge" ;-) is that when we are in our 50s, we are having to do the "get up with the baby" (Gracie) thing. :lol: :lol: at least it's quick for us...probably not so for you.

Stay warm. Go Cobb!!!!

Nicely done, Cobb! It's great to see some better numbers. :-D :-D I think you haven't made the adjustment to a new month. :smile: Temperature is all relative. I moved from Phoenix to Maine and I was cold for a year. Stay warm!

Beautiful Sunny Cobb!!!! :-D :-D I absolutely LOVE these new colors on his sheet Suzanne, you have really got him turning around :-D
Hoping you are able to get yourself more rest, and yes stay warm! I won't even tell you what our temp is up here :lol: , but cold discomfort is relative..and just no fun at all. Pics in the snowsuit, should you choose to brave the weather!! :-D

Cobb is pretty excited about his lower numbers. I've heard a great deal of noise from upstairs of him getting into trouble. :lol:

I did some price comparing of R today. I can't believe Publix charges $113 for Novalin R when Walmart charges just $25. No prescription required in Georgia either. Talked to Matt about it, and I think if we haven't seen substantial movement by this weekend - since we'll be coming up on 11units bid by then, we're up for trying it.

Talk to me about what his SS needs to look like to do the R. As you can see he's pretty flat for the past few days - surfing in the yellow. Is that too low to bring it down with some R?

Here are the syringes I have. I also have some that are marked with whole units from Publix. What do I need to do between now and then to prepare? Measure a unit and practice squeezing out 10 drops? I know I probably won't use the whole vial of R, but I'm guessing I shouldn't squeeze the insulin back in the vial, right?

Not sure if you can tell. I like to plan ahead and get all the info I can!!

Love all that yellow. No wonder Cobb is getting into trouble. :lol: He must be feeling SO much better.

BTW - I can totally sympathize with you on the weather. We are hovering in the high 30-40's so single digits would feel COLD. Stay warm tonight.

It seems that people are starting with .1 for their R doses. You can practice with coloured water getting a consistent .1U. One other method is to press the plunger really hard before putting it in the vial/pen, then releasing and letting that little bit into the syringe. Check to see if that is the same size drop as the one you get when you are counting 10 drops to a unit. Quite the price difference on the vials! I'll see if I can get a few R knowledgeable people to pop in to discuss strategy.

I'm glad to see Cobb looking so better, and hearing how well he is feeling :-D Yes, you are right, I am laughing at your weather alert...and strangely jealous :lol: Have a nice rest of your Monday!

It's so wonderful to see Cobb finally responding and getting better numbers Suzanne! I'm sure you're very pleased to be seeing movement too!

I can't help with the questions on R, other than to tell you that if you pull too much, you shouldn't shoot it back into the vial. The inside of the syringes has a lubricant so if you shoot it back into the vial, that gets in there too. Better to just squirt it down the sink.

Good luck with the R if you decide to go ahead and try it! It'll be interesting (as well as educational) to see how he does!!

It's also great to hear he's getting into trouble...lets you know that he's definitely feeling better!!

Congrats on all of that yellow! We're right behind you in the pink.

Regarding the price of R, I bought mine yesterday at Wallgreens for $90.00. I was completely shocked because I was expecting about $30.00. There was a long line behind me, and unlike you, I didn't do any research. Alex just told me that R is priced at $25.50 at Wallmart, he's there picking up test strips. How there can be a $65.00 difference for OTC medicine in the same small town, I'll never know. Where's the justice!

I thought our R curve was a smashing success. Although there was little chance of Ole going hypo with him being on top of the roof now for weeks. I test him in .5 hr and I really really hope he stays in the pink.

Continued success for you all! Get out of those flip flops and put some nice and toasty wool socks on!

Thanks Rebekah! I was watching in the wings!! Looks like Ole responded well to the R.

I'm so glad I called around. I was like, "umm $113 to try it and see how it works? I don't think so. $25? Sure, why not."

Looks like it's always sunny in, well, Atlanta. Lol. At least for the time being. I keep waiting for the inevitable B word, and am actually a tad confused as to why we haven't seem it (anti-jinx). Not wanting it, just curious.

Hope Cobb works this extra juice. I haven't really noticed a pattern in his cycles as to when Cobb shows if he's going to do something on his current dose. If anyone else has noticed a pattern, please point it out!

We're headed into the single digits tonight so Cobb will most likely be curled up somewhere on the bed (a habit he has returned to recently). Matty is in his fleece pajamas and will probably be snuggled up against me, nursing all night. He thinks it's a 24-hour, all you can eat buffet!!! But I'll take snuggles from both my babies, if I must! Everyone stay warm!!

those syringes are perfect. that's why i used, and i confess that i don't think i ever did the drop counting - I used the pictures on the New to the Group sticky, looked carefully at where the black line of the plunger was compared to lines on the syringe.

With an acro cat on a high dose, drops don't do much to change anything so it wasn't as important for me. We don't know if Cobb has acro or iaa, so the difference in drops may make a difference to him. I would draw up the unit and see if you can get 10 drops out of the unit. your goal is to start with one drop.

R is pretty liquid like water - i mean it's "thickness" is similar - so i think you can practice with water. you can use tea or flat pop, or add a drop of food coloring so you can really see what you're doing.

As far as when to try it - i'd like to hear Sandy's thoughts on that.

The dreaded B - i'm not seeing it. He's being pretty flat, he's just come down into yellows. which is awesome! I think you're having trouble seeing the bounce because he's not having anything obvious that looks bouncy.

great job on the R purchase! you're a super shopper. we're also "delicate" in oregon when it snows. An inch can close our schools too. stay warm! but get a pic of matty in that snowsuit somehow! one of my most treasured pics of my son is him in an itty-bitty red plaid snowsuit at a couple of months old.

Correct. never squeeze insulin back into the vial. Although I can't exactly remember, I believe it lasts a really long time in the fridge and it's not fragile, like Lantus. if the bottle gets dropped, no worries.

That particular 'phenomenon' (which shall remain nameless) changes over time. it's another moving part to take note of.

Flat yellow - there is an adage in LL, that flat yellow is a signal you may see some action next cycle, so heads up.

I had some dental work today and once the numbness subsided I had to take something for the pain. As soon as I'm back to normal I'll get my thoughts together.
I can say that looking at Cobbs ss today gives me a completely different feeling than it did just one short week ago. . .

Who knows - like Marje says,sometimes just having the R in the fridge . . . .

I don't know if you have ever seen my post on Dosing with Calipers.

Because Gracie is on a small dose and one drop of levemir can make a huge difference to her (she's s little girl, too), I couldn't take the chance of using syringes where the dose might vary as much as almost 0.5u from shot to shot....that was with the Monojects. So I switched to Terumos because, while they vary, it isn't as much as the MJs. I started using digital calipers to dose and it made a huge difference in her BG because of consistent dosing. It's likely to not make that big of a difference with a high dose kitty, but you never know.

So....I also use the calipers to dose R because it is really, really critical that I give Gracie a tiny dose. I've done all the work on the Terumos and 0.1u measures 0.15mm using the digital calipers. It makes it so much easier than trying to get the exact same size drop every time (which I've never had much luck doing). And I know there is no way for me to overdose her with R because I don't have to estimate the drop...I can measure it.

I had R in the frig for a month before I had the opportunity to use it :lol: :lol: so I do think the threat of it is powerful ;-)
