So we've been officially home from the Vet for a little over a day. She did some tweaking on the starting dose of Prozinc (now at 2.5U bid). Higher than the 1U we decided to begin with, but considering he is recovering from DKA and that the 1.0 wasn't denting his numbers....seems to have been the right decision.
I'd love to hear anybody's thoughts...but I'm still having to supplement R to keep his numbers in an OK range, even with the 2.5U dose. His onset is late, late, late on Prozinc alone, so his numbers climb, climb, climb from preshot. Last night was Prozinc alone and he was at 502 this morning....eeek! For this morning's dose, I gave a bit of R with the Prozinc and it quickly brought the 502 down and we seem to be surfing a lovely green afternoon!
I'm holding on this 2.5 for a few more days, but kind of think that 3.0 looked better - still late, but seemed to take the edge off earlier in the day. Ultimately, I'd like to eliminate the R all together and just use one insulin. He's still "under the weather" now, so I don't want to push it just yet.....
