Blackie's appetite has not returned as I hoped and he is losing weight. He's lost .2 oz every day for the last 3 days. I know that's not much, but it is a trend I don't want continued. So I am going to restart the Mirtazapine tonight. I want to be home when I give it which is why I didn't give it this morning.

I was surprised at that drop to +2 (actually +1.75). I gave him some 15% FF Medley which he still likes. DH will be able to check him later this morning.

He's also still having peeing issues. For the 2nd time he peed in his food box during the night. I think he forgets where he is - it is a box similar to a covered LB. So I'm going to watch him when I feed him at midnight and put him in the LB after he's done eating. I really want to get that resolved quickly - I don't want my SIL to have to deal with that when we're on vaca which is a week and a half away.

Other P's are in place - pooing normally and cleaning himself. He just doesn't look as good as he did before though. :sad: I wish there was something I could do.

I am sorry Ele - I had hoped that the good tings from yesterday had continued into today. I wish I could help, but am clueless. You are always in our thoughts - Mannie and I send healing healthy vines Blackie's way. Hang in there Ele.

Blackie - you need the KTSS? We could come and give you a spa, and maybe bring you some soup? I hear it really helps. We need to visit Binks today too, cuz he git stuck in the slider. :shock: See you later, OK? ~~ Mannie

Oh Blackie, still not so interested in food? I hope the mirtz helps jump start him again. Eat, eat, it's good for you.

The pee accidents are worrisome, but I wonder if it would help to change the food box so that it doesn't resemble a litter box? Can you feed him on a tray or a towel instead?

I'm sorry about the eating and the peeing. If the mirtz. works without side effects I would continue it until you get back. You don't want him going off food while you are away, which is often reason enough to not eat for a cat.

Thank you so much for the good thoughts. I have been letting this stress me out. Just to explain the food box, it allows Blackie to have access to his auto feeder anytime without the civies getting to his food. This is where I first heard of it and DH built one for Blackie: http://www.robwatson.com/foodbox.html Since Blackie had used pet doors his whole life it was easy to get him to use it. Now I suspect he has a little dementia and/or is forgetting where he is. Several weeks ago he also peed in the cube.

DH said he ate at +4 and he will get a +6 for Blackie before he goes to his tbp. Thanks again! You guys are great! :YMHUG:

Very cool on the food box! What a great idea. I hope Blackie starts eating better, feeling better, and using the LB.

(((Ele)))..you are doing SO much for him. I'm hoping his appetite will return and he will gain some weight. It just seems like it is tough to keep weight on these CKD kitties. He's got a nice surf going on now. Hope you have a good day.

I gave Bear Man SAMe (one brand is Denosyl) which may help with feline dementia. Bear Man was disoriented and often lost his way (and was blind of course). I thought it helped a bit.

Oh Ele, I'm very sorry that Blackie is having problems. I hope that he will get back on track and we are sending many vines this evening to that handsome guy.
