This number is higher than his +2. Not sure what to make of that. Could this still be residual from yesterday's hypo (he had honey, whipped cream, extra food). I had higher hopes for the new lower dose of 1.2, but I also understand it can take a few days to make sense, yes?

I think it will. Cats really vary in times of their bounces and how they recover from hypo and "sweets" Wait until you have a number tonight. It may be that 1.2 is a shade too low, but it's too soon to tell.

Absolutely don't be discouraged with any ugly numbers you get today! He's still adjusting after going so low yesterday. His body is trying to protect him from it happening again.

Thank you both. I'm hanging tight, waiting to see what tonight brings. Good to know it could just be his system recovering.

I'm thinking any residual effects of the hypo have basically worn off by now.

It may be that 1.2u was not enough insulin this cycle. But I do think it was good advice to continue to try it.

It can take a few cycles for a new dose to "settle." Some people find better success with fixed or consistent dosing - holing a dose over several or more cycles. And others find better success with addressing the dose differently each cycle. It may just take a little experimenting to see what you end up being most successful with. Fixed dosing takes a little more patience and variable or scale dosing takes a perhaps a hair more mind space. Also if you change the dose all the time you lose the opportunity to see if fixed dosing can work best for you. It is all really in your hands.

What time is your PS time? Maybe you can test and post back in here and see if you can get lucky to get any responses tonight before you dose again.

My PS time is about 8:55 pm EST. I'll definitely post his number.

When you say cycle, what do you mean? A 12 hour period or 24 or?

Cycle defined

1 "cycle" = the period from one shot to another.

There might be some rare exceptions to this definition like in "split dosing" but that's pretty advanced and technical and you can pretty much ignore my clarification at this point. With PZI a "cycle" is usually 12 hours since it is usually given BID or every 12 hours. But this can vary in different scenarios like in the case of TID or three times a day dosing where a "cycle" would be 8 hours.

I was just looking at your SS and wanted to make a note about yesterday 01/04/11 and fixed vs other dosing.

In fixed dosing one is trying to capture the effects of "overlap" which is defined in the sticky. Joanna has talked before about overlap in more detail here:

Basically what I'm getting at is that yesterday the dose was clearly too much but you still had a rise from the PS to +2. Since I'm more into variable dosing I would interpret this rise as not enough insulin which clearly was not the case. So it may be that a more fixed dosing approach that could capture the effects of overlap which could be indicated by no rise between PS & +2 may be worth pursuing for you guys. But I do want to add caution about drawing too many conclusions from one cycle. I just wanted to throw the idea out there.

Thanks, I appreciate all the feed back. At this point, I'm willing to give the 1.2 dose a few more cycles to see what it truly doe before trying something new. I feel like I should at least give it a chance.
