I rang the vet yesterday to ask when his blood test results would be ready. They were done in house she said - didn't the vet go through them with you - he hadn't. Got them to send me a copy and several values are out of whack. His regular vet is back today so I'll give him a call. The issues include:
  • Platelets, range 175-600 Vyktor 811 (on 1/9/14 - 533, on 2/24/12 316)
  • MCV (mean cell volume), range 41-58, Vyktor 78.2
  • MCH (mean cell haemoglobin), range 12-20, Vyktor 21.7
  • MCHC (mean cell haemoglobin concentration), range 29-35.5, Vyktor 27.8
  • EOS, range 0.1-0.79 Vyktor 1.45 (on 1/9/14 - 1.44 - this was put down to fleas at the time, on 2/24/12 0.82)
Others that don't have a range specified but have been trending up are PCT, PDW and %MONO (don't know what these ones are). His RBC (red blood cell count) has instead been trending down. At 5.3 it's still just within the range of 5-10 but it was on 1/9/14 - 7.87 and on 2/24/12 - 9.29.

Good luck with the dosecrease for Purrdy. I'm sorry some of Vyktor's results are out of whack. I hope the vet can give you an idea of what is going on and it's something simple to treat. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I bookmarked this post on Interpreting Feline Bloodwork - maybe that will be helpful. I'd go through it one factor at a time and see if you can make sense of it. Marje knows a lot about blood tests and may be able to help you, too. Today is her regular work day so she is usually not online Wednesdays.

Hopefully your vet will give you some help with it too.

Work that doscrease Purrdy - we want a lot more green this time!

I've booked marked a site on Normal Cat and Dog Blood Values that I find useful. It gives ideas why things might be up or down from normal. Your vet should be able to tell you what it means. I was amazed at how many things out of range that my vet does not worry about.

Good luck with the dosecrease for Purdy!

I hope your vet can answer all your questions regarding Vyktor's BW. I admit, I know next to nothing about how to interpret those numbers but hopefully your vet can, or you might consider PM'ing Marje, she is a whiz at explaining what it means.

Hi Serryn,
The websites that explain what those things mean are helpful. At least you can get an inkling from looking at them, but your vet really needs to tell you what it's all about. Marje and Sienne are both good at interpreting blood-test values.

Sending vines!

Nice low blue surf today and now we have green - go dosecrease :D

Spoke to Vyktor's vet this afternoon - he's not overly concerned about Vyktor's bloods but when I pointed out the trend of the red blood cell count decreasing and the volume of those cells increasing (which indicates that there are more new cells) he decided we'd best have another look in 2-3 months to make sure they're replenishing themselves okay. Not sure whether he thinks there's potential that I may be onto something or it's just to ease my mind!

Thanks for the websites, better than what I had found!

He was concerned about his BG which was 196 - until I told him I'd tested him that morning at home at 79 - shows just how stressed the poor little thing was :(

YAY! Green for Purrdy! :D

Mannie alwyas had a few things on his BW that were slightly out of whack too. My vet never seemed overly concerned either, we just went with the flow, retested again in a few months. Keep on truckin' Vyktor!
