Hi Amanda,

Someone may have already suggested this, but have you had her in to the vet since the inappropriate urination started? Every single time Lucy has peed outside the box, she turned out to have a UTI. They're pretty common in diabetic cats. The high numbers (especially when she used to be fairly well regulated) could also indicate that infection or pain is present, so there are two clues that something might be wrong. If she usually uses the box and now isn't, I recommend a vet visit.

I will definitely look at the UTI but I'm not convinced she has one, since she uses the box more than she doesn't. I will make a preliminary appointment for her and keep an eye out. I agree that if she has an infection, it would raise her BG.

I agree with Libby - it would be good to at least see the vet & rule out a UTI. We talked about the possibility of UTI's on 1/2 here and several people mentioned that as a possibility. Amanda, the combination of the inappropriate peeing (and when a person has a UTI there is often an urgency of having to go RIGHT NOW, ie, can't make it to the box downstairs . . . ) and the high numbers seem to point to something going on. You've almost doubled her dose in the past 9 days and she doesn't seem to be hardly noticing it. I don't think she's got hidden low numbers that you're missing, although it's possible something's going on in the night cycle, but overall, it just looks like she's high.

Sending our best to the little girl. I hope you get it figured out soon. :bighug:

Thanks everyone. I'm thinking this might be more and more a UTI, although her inappropriate pee has ceased. She did pee outside the box overnight (or someone did), but it was just outside the box on the mat, so I completely point that to having her butt outside the box and just missing it. I get stressed about vet visits for her, b/c she has had occasions where they couldn't get a sample and it was a waste of everyone's time, esp her time b/c of the stress. So I hope we can get her there when she has a full bladder and hope she doesn't pee in the carrier.
