TLDR: what to do with 0.5 units BID glargine when going low carb (16% to 4%)?
Since Wilbur is on such low insulin, we are switching from his current food (RC limited ingredient PD, 16% carbs) with the occasional dry food RC HP (stupid amount of carbs) when he snubs then wet food.
The limiting factor before was his civvie sister and the disruption to the clowder seemed excessive when he was on so much insulin a few weeks ago (ie an insurmountable hill).
Now it feels like we might be able to get him off insulin and want to switch the diet.
After doing a deep nutrient dive today and spatial research, we found food we feel safe having in the house and a solution to better control/track intake.
The enclosures arrive in a few weeks but the food arrives this week. If we go slowly from about 16% carbs (RC PD) to a 4% carb food (wellness complete turkey) for his wet and a limited amount of dry (going from 37% carb to 27% carb), what should we do with his insulin?
Since he is at 0.5 units bid, do we:
1) stop entirely
2) cut to 0.25 units bid
3) try to do 0.1 units bid
he never had ketones and I am planning on switching the food next weekend so we’re home with them.
again a million thanks!!!
