1/4 Gus getting medication for pancreatitis

I am talking with the vet to get meds for Gus to help with his pancreatitis. He is going to give me pain meds. and for nausea he uses Cerenia and this is what he recommends. I was asking for ondansetron he know about the med but he is not prescribing it. Is Cerenia OK?

We used cerenia when Mannie had p'titis. It did work for him. ALot here prefer the ondansetron, feel that it works better. Good deal that you are getting pain meds, bupe I hope? Be also went with B12 for Mannie too. It seemed to help as well.
 
I've used both cerenia and ondansetron. Cerenia is "supposed" to be better for pancreatitis because it helps with inflammation. However, for some cats ondansetron works better. Some even need both but we won't go there at this point. Some of us find cerenia is best for vomiting and ondansetron for nausea. Try the cerenia and if the symptoms don't improve I'd ask for ondansetron. Many vets still don't like them to be on cerenia for more than 5 days and then want two days off. People then use ondansetron on the off days. If you get it then you will be able to experiment to see what works best for Gus. Many cats need bupe but again it didn't make a difference for Max. I also found that he needs 2mg of ondansetron rather than the lmg I started with and it took months to figure that one out. He's had chronic p'itits for over 5 years BTW. Feel better Gus.
 
ECID...my vet also doesn't use onda, but she was willing to prescribe it for me. We did find that, for Trix, cerenia actually did work better. For the first few days of her p-titis, when she was particularly nauseated, we used injectable cerenia; after that, we switched to the pills. The dosing protocol is different from vet to vet, but more and more of them are realizing that cerenia can be dosed daily indefinitely. Trix has been on 4mg cerenia every other day for almost a year now, and when she does have any sort of barfy flare-ups, I increase her to 4mg daily for several days.

Vet's office just called to let me know that he prescribed 2 vials of pain killer and 5 days Cerenia (Total $88). I am just thinking if it is chronic condition is this enough.
 
Cerenia is pricey. Since Trix gets it regularly, get our cerenia from EntirelyPets.com.....much cheaper! It's good to have it on hand. I don't have too much bupe experience, though....someone else can probably answer that question better than I can.
 
We just started using Ond for Tess, more for inappetence and nausea though. Our vet prefers Cerenia too, but we finally got a Rx. Costco carries it, I think $12 for 30 pills. They are tiny pills and we quarter them w/ a single edge razor blade. When she has a UTI we give her bupe, usually on the light side of the recommended dose. We can tell when she needs more, she finds a quiet spot and hunches up. Once it takes effect she relaxes and curls up more comfortably.
