Got back from the vet just in time for Dusty's AM shot. Good timing! He was able to get a urine sample (he sedated her, thinking he would have to grab it straight from her bladder, but she ended up peeing all over the table. ) and said there were a lot of white blood cells in the urine, which pointed to a bacterial infection. So she's on clavamox for two weeks and we'll recheck her urine then. If the antibiotics don't work by early(ish) next week, we'll go back in and he'll culture some of her urine.

I'm surprised her BG wasn't higher, since she she was tested within five minutes of getting back from the vet. I gave her a full dose (1.5u) and she's eaten well. Poor dear has the super-dilated eyes of a cat who got sedated. But she's full of purrs and clearly happy to be home. Fingers crossed that the antibiotics will kick in soon and she'll start feeling better.

Re: 1/4, Dusty, AMPS 257 (+vet visit for blood in urine)

Hi Michelle glad to hear things went ok at the vet. Hope the ab's help. Paws crossed! Clavamox raises bg's in some kitties. Glad you got home for shot time! Sometimes the bg's won't be higher until later on after they have been home and others don't get affected at all who knows ECID!!!! Hope you can enjoy the rest of the day. Happy Fursday!

Re: 1/4, Dusty, AMPS 257 (+vet visit for blood in urine)

Glad you were able to find the problem and get her on the ABs. Sounds like it's time for a good long nap...Hope she gets to feeling better soon!

I grew up in Eastern Washington - many years spent in the mighty Palouse! Hoo-ah!

Re: 1/4, Dusty, AMPS 257 (+vet visit for blood in urine)

Glad you got her in. Clavamox can make them have upset tummies so keep a close eye on her. They often don't want to eat.

Hmmm....my vets have never sedated my cats to get a cysto. It's usually pretty quick and painless so unless she's really unhappy at the vet, if he ever has to do it, I'd ask him to not sedate her.

Good job last night and I'm glad she surfed nicely for you.

Whelp, Michelle it looks like you may have been right -- her vet jump came a bit later! I hope that the insulin kicks in quickly and she goes down to those lovely blues and greens she's been enjoying the last few days.

Marje - the vet warned me about that, too. So far, though, Dusty has been eating quite well. (Though it could be that the clavamox hasn't really hit her system yet. I'll be more curious how she acts tonight and tomorrow.) Dusty is actually very good at the vet. She has a bit of a freeze mechanism. Poor kitty usually just sits there and starts drooling if she gets really upset. So I'm not entirely sure why he sedated her. I'll ask him about it next time I'm in there. And thanks again for being there last night and your advice! I'm glad I dosed and that she cooperated and let me sleep a bit more than the night before. :)

Tara - where in Eastern WA? I'm in Walla Walla, which is such a great little town. And lots of tasty wine. :-D

Now if only Dusty will go to sleep! I think she feels discombobulated after sedation and she fights sleeping. At the moment she's laying and slowly blinking, reminding me a bit of a toddler who is fighting their afternoon nap.

Walla Walla, eh? Send me some good onions, please!! Nummeh! I grew up in Pullman - sometimes I miss the smell of ripe wheat in the summer and the harvest moons, but I don't miss the winters. Hope it's not too cold up there for ya!

Back in the blues at her +10! Wonderful! She's been eating like a champ -- almost two cans worth of food! She hasn't slept at all since the vet's, though. I think that whatever medication they used to sedate her makes her feel woozy and she is fighting it. (I think it would have worn off, but at around +6 I gave her some pain meds that cause drowsiness...so naturally she refused to sleep!)

Back up for her PMPS. I guess Dusty is just ensuring that her mama will be able to sleep through the night without having to get up and test.
