Happy New Year!

It has been quite a week! Butch has had a few cycles with blue but mostly yellow and pink. His neuropathy became worse where his hind legs were weaker. He was walking slow and low and hesitant getting on and off my bed. I noticed urine on the floor outside of the litter box and started watching every time he used it. He was going into the box but not positioning himself as he usually does, so his pee was going on the floor (I am thinking because of the leg weakness). He is also excessively drinking water and peeing when his BG isn't in the blues (100s). Also, I believe he is having a pancreatitis flare. He is getting Cerenia and Mirataz.

1/2, Friday, Butch had a vet visit for blood work and urinalysis and culture. I received the lab results yesterday for the blood work and urinalysis (I posted on his SS), I am waiting on the culture. I hope to get it on Monday.

Since yesterday 1/3, his legs weren't as weak. He is walking on his hocks but not low, he is jumping and moving like he use too but still getting urine outside the box at times depending on his position in the box. I should receive the Vitacost B12 Methylcobalamin 5000 mcg today to start him on.

I gave Butch a .25u increase this morning. Hopefully, this is the right dose, and his BG will come down, and he won't spend so much time in the yellow and pink. It is difficult to know if he really deserves reductions when I give them because my only way to monitor is with the Libre sensor, so I don't know how accurate his numbers are when he is low.

The report:
Urine Protein Creatine Reflex: test - protein/creatinine, ratio 0.1, Protein 10.7 Creatinine 75.8
Renal Tech Prediction - positive - will develop CKD within the next 24 months with greater than 95% accuracy.

I need some guidance, please take a look at his SS and labs @Angela & Cleo, @Bandit's Mom, @Christie & Maverick, @tiffmaxee, @Wendy&Neko
I really appreciate your support with the dosage and your thoughts on his lab results.

Wishing everyone a relaxed Sunday and a safe surf to all the kitties!

Hi Madeline, I'm so sorry to hear that Butch has been having a tough go of it lately (and you, as well, along with him) :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I know that you'll get some good feedback from the knowledgeable folks here.

Hi Madeline, good luck with the increase. I’m sure if his BG comes down a bit he will drink less and pee less.

I hope the B12 helps his legs πŸ™
Do you have any pet steps? I got them and put them next to my bed and Ivy now uses them to get on and off of my bed.
It took her over a year of the steps sitting there and she refused to use them.
Then one day all of a sudden she decided to use them and now she uses them all the time, it was really kind of crazy.
She’s a mystery.

I hope the meds help him feel better and get over the flare quickly. I know you know how to handle that well πŸ™
I’m sure you’re right about the litter box situation, it sounds like a leg issue.
Do you have a low sided litter box? That can help too.

Wishing you and Butch a calm night ahead. Please give him some kisses from me πŸ’“πŸ’•β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

Good luck with the increase.

A tip for lab results - I found it easier to spot items out of range if I changed the text colour to red for that item.

UPCR normal range is 0.0-0.2, so no worries there. I'm not sure why you are getting both the Renal Tech Prediction and the SDMA as they both tell you roughly the same thing. Butch is concentrating his urine fairly well (USG) - I hope that was a first thing in the morning visit? Urine is always more concentrated first thing of the day. Seems like has been his normal the last few years.

For that pancreatitis flare, he should also be getting some pain relief.

Neko had quite bad arthritis, it got increasingly harder for her to squat enough for the pee to land inside the box. I surrounded the box with pee pads. Another option is a higher sided box with a low entry door. As long as he doesn't aim out the doorway!

Hi Staci, thank you so much, for your well wishes πŸ™

I don't have steps, but I am thinking of purchasing. I was looking last night on Amazon and Chewy.
They sure do the strangest things. Wow, over a year, little Miss Ivy! πŸ₯°
The litter box isn't too high. Butch gets in okay; it is the way he positions himself that his urine is shooting outside.
Wendy mentioned a higher sided box with one side low. Maybe that will work as long as he doesn't have his back to the low side when going.

Did you get Ivy lab results? I hope that her T4 and B12 levels were good πŸ™
Wishing you and Ivy a calm night too. Butch enjoyed his kisses. Safe surfing, Ivy! πŸ’•πŸ˜»πŸ„β€β™‚οΈ

Hi Wendy, thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I am glad to hear that Butch's UPCR is in the normal range.

Great tip. I am going to make the text color change.

I was able to catch Butch's urine into a sterile cup and brought it with me (it was his 2nd pee in the morning) but
my vet decided to collect while he was in the back having his blood draw.
I didn't know that SDMA and RTP are basically the same. I am not sure why both tests were done.
Maybe because I asked for complete blood work and urinalysis and culture?

For the pancreatitis flare which pain meds are usually given?

Butch get the Solensia shot monthly for his arthritis. I did put down a pee pad but then Butch seemed little hesitant entering the box.
I'll try again and not be so quick to move it! I'll also look into the higher sided box with a low entry door. Thanks again! πŸ’•πŸ˜»:bighug:

For pancreatitis, my vet's go to is buprenorphine. Some vets tend to gabapentin but it's not as strong. I've heard from humans with pancreatitis that it is very painful.

You can also get washable pee pads that look more like just a rug. Might be easier, less slippery to walk on.
