(Starting this 1/4 condo tonight … a little early…its midnight so technically 1/4 though…. we will be leaving here at 6:30am and I don’t know that I will have time to post then.)

Well in a few hours… we will be taking Jupiter to his chemo treatment. This is his 5th and final treatment. Although I am excited that this is his last treatment, I am incredibly scared and worried. I am praying the side effects don’t get any worse as they have with each treatment. I want this to be an easy treatment with little side effects so he can get back on the road to feeling better. Once again, I ask you , my LL family….to keep my sweet baby Jupe in your thoughts and prayers today and over the next few days as he recovers from this chemo.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers, vines and support. This week has been a rough week for Jupiter and I am so thankful I have you all here to support us.

Sending healing vines to Lucy and all other kitties who need them

Sending comforting thoughts, vines, and prayers to Janet. Fly free Izzy

We are here now (posting from my phone) and they have already taken him in the back for his treatment. He did pretty good with the car ride today and really hoping he does well the rest of the day.

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well. ?-pet grass-?

Jupiter is sitting at the door again and crying. He wants to go outside to eat grass... He did this after his last chemo treatment too.

Petco is all out of cat grass.... The locally owned small pet store doesnt sell it. I am not sure what to do...

Does anyone have any ideas of alternatives?

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well. ?-pet grass-?

Jamie,

Dang if its anything like here you can`t see the grass. He must be nauseous? I sure do hope he gets to feeling better. Do have anything to give him for nausea?

Terri

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well. ?-pet grass-?

There is snow outside still on the grass... (because of the snow... the grass will be nasty and dead......and theres no really like... open fields......and the salt trucks get the salt everywhere and i dont want him eating that.... sure that would probably make him really sick)

They gave him a cerenia injection today. And we have cerenia for him but we dont give til tomorrow since he got the injection today.

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well. ?-pet grass-?

Glad to hear you and Jupiter are home and that the chemo is over!!

All of lantus land will be keeping you guys in our prayers and sending tons of healing vines to help Jupe get through this last treatment.

I know you have to be relieved that it's over!

Hope you enjoy what's left of your Caturday

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well. ?-pet grass-?

Glad you made it back safe and sound. ;-)
I wonder if he could eat parsley? You could get that at a grocery store. Here's an article to read. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?C=32&A=1315
I think I would call the pet stores around and ask them if they have cat grass. Sometimes it's hard to find in the big ole store, and maybe you just didn't see it when you went there.
I buy these and grow them when needed. The grow fast.

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well. ?-pet grass-?

I went to the site of the manufacturer of the pet grass : http://bellrockgrowers.com/index.html

I searched the store locators and called every store that sells it within an hour and 20 minute drive from here.

apparently the supplier was closed for 10 days for the holidays.....all the stores have said they are out of stock.

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well. ?-pet grass-?

What other stores do you have around you? I would think a lot of stores that have pet sections, may have cat grass for sale.
Even some live catnip to nibble on may help his tummy.

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well. ?-pet grass-?

no ideas on the grass, but glad he's done with the chemo and glad they gave him cerenia.

:YMHUG:

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well. ?-pet grass-?

Another thought on grass - there are some juice shops in town here that sell custom blended fruit/veggie juices. They usually have some oat grass growing for people who like that added to their drink. Maybe they would sell you some?

I think we've only got one supplier of pet grass around here too, cause I know the stores have run out before. That's when I started buying the seeds but that's still a few days of growing.

I'm so happy Jupiter is home and DONE with chemo! :YMHUG:

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well. ?-pet grass-?

I feel dumb because I didnt think of this earlier... Jupiter likes lettuce. When I buy a bag of salad I usually give him a piece and he likes it.

I think we will try that first...

I did call around to many stores that have pet sections and none sale live grass. Not even the nursery that grows and sells plants has any kind of grass.

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well. ?-pet grass-?

I'm sorry that Jupiter feels yucky. Hopefully the lettuce will help. Another place to try for the cat grass is the grocery store, I can usually find cat grass in the floral section at our Price Chopper grocery stores. Good luck!

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well. ?-pet grass-?

checked the local grocery store and no grass but did get some fresh parsley and a bag of salad for him

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well

I hope the parsley and the salad help Jupiter feel better. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well

Hope the salad does the trick for Jupiter. Whoo hoo on NO more chemo!! Sending quick recovery vines for him, Jamie. Hugs for you and Dane, you guys have done a wonderful job :-D

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well

How is Jupe doing this evening? I know these treatments are rough on all of you...I hope the salad and parsley helped settle his tummy. A huge hooray and sigh of relief that this is the last treatment!!!!

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well

maybe some green beans may help too??? I don't know if it's an old wives tale, but I heard that the reason why dogs eat grass is because their bodies need the chlorophyll and green beans would help if there was no grass....but I hope he like parsley and the salad and it helps settle his tummy.

Ralph and I want to thank you guys again for stopping by and giving Ralphie (and he other furbabies) all those specials! I am sure that he will enjoy them as the days go on!

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well

I hope the lettuce and parsley have helped Jupes tummy to feel a little better tonight Jamie.
And what a big relief to know that this is the last time he has to go thru this.
Hang in there everyone...everyday he will get a bit better.
You guys have come so far and done such a GREAT job with him.
You should be proud, I know LL is proud of the job you and Dane have done with Jupiter ♥

1/5 UPDATE

Just wanted to post a quick update...

Seems like Jupe is feeling pretty crappy today. Atleast hes not meowing for grass today though....Hes hasnt eaten more then a few bites all day so will be offering him some iams maximum calorie food next... He seems to like this food and will atleast take a few bites on his own... so if hes not going to be eating a lot of quantity today, probably best to give him food with lots of calories.

Yesterday they gave him 5mg of the chemo instead of the regular 6mg. His oncologist reduced the dose in hopes of a little less side effects especially since the side effects seem to be getting worse with each treatment.

an update from last night too...
"jupe would lay down and keep moving like he couldnt get comfy......and i know its a little chilly in here.....so....i used the last of my money and i went to dollar general and got him a little pet bed... was $5.75.... best couple of bucks i couldve spent!!

i got home put some catnip in it.... showed it to him... put him in it.....he immediately took a nap finally

he fits inside of it sooo perfectly so i think it keeps him warm too... i think his sisters are going to steal it from him though lol hopefully i can get them one too......im just so happy it helped him to rest easier

i could just tell he was having a hard time getting comfy... and when he laid down and fell asleep i started to cry cause i was so happy!!!"

I will try to post a pic of him laying in it... hes so cute!!!! if he was any bigger he wouldnt fit! :-D

thank you all so much for visits and support

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well.....update

Good news on the cat bed! :-D And I hear you on the size. I was looking at the cat beds in Petsmart the other day and I don't think either of mine would fit in them, they look so tiny.

Sending more feel better and appy vines for Jupiter today. :YMHUG:

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well.....update

I'm glad Jupiter liked his bed. Did he eat the MaxCal?
Sending strong feel better vines to Jupiter.

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well.....update

Wonderful to hear that Jupiter loves his cozy new bed and he was finally able to get some rest. Continued prayers sent to you and Jupiter. I hope you get some rest too! :YMHUG:

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well.....update

Sending more prayers...eat up, Jupe!!! You're all done with chemo - yay!!!!!

Just as an FYI... Chemo is a bit different in cats than humans. Compared to humans, cats get a much lower dose and don't experience the side effects that humans do. Kitties tolerate the chemo well. Usually, they are "off" for a day or two and then back to normal.

Jamie & Jupiter said:
Yes the vet said that Jupiter will do great with chemo since he is otherwise a healthy kitty. She said cats do not lose their hair/fur like a human would and do not experience the same side effects. She said side effects are very rare in cats and if they have bad side effects then they would not do anymore chemo. The oncologist said quality of life is a big concern to her and she wouldnt do anything to make Jupiter not feel well.

It is very sad that Jupiter is having such uncomfortable side effects, and I am very sorry that this is happening. Per your comments above made in Sept., I thought that cats tolerate chemo well and don't have side effects but it seems that Jupiter is not tolerating it very well. I am curious because I know someone who is considering chemo for their cat and I don't want to mislead her by telling her the wrong information. What does your vet say about the side effects now that Jupiter has them? I thought she said she wouldn't use chemo if the effects were bad. Thanks for the advice. My friend is very concerned about moving ahead and I really want to help her. Do you still recommend chemo now that Jupiter is finished? Thank you so much and I hope Jupiter feels better soon.

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well.....update

i'd love to see a pic of jupiter in his new bed. how sweet that it makes him feel better. we're sending our best to the little guy!

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well.....update

Jamie,
I am so sorry to hear that Jupiter is still not feeling well. That was quick thinking on your part to go out and get him that bed. Hopefully he'll get some really good healing time sleeping in it. I'll be watching for that picture. Can't wait to see it. My heart goes out to the little fellow. Continued healing vines to Jupiter.

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well.....update

We will be praying for Jupiter to feel better. I am glad that is able to get some rest in his new bed.

Re: 1/4 Jupiter - chemo-not feeling well.....update

Jamie, we are thinking of Jupe snuggled into his new little bed and hoping that it will make him feel lots better. Isn't it neat the way big kitties love little beds and little boxes? Rusty is way too big for his little bed, but it's his favorite place to sleep during the day. Stu used to cram himself into tiny boxes, the smaller the better (he was a big, 17-lb. cat).

Thinking of you tonight and praying that Jupiter will get over the chemo side effects quickly. Sending some eating vines, too.
