Michelangelo is definitely transitioning from the kitten consumption stage into an adult. He's been eating less these last few days, not because he's hungry or isn't feeling good, but simply because he doesn't seem to be needing as many calories. I was a little worried at first, but he's acting completely normal and is just not immediately finishing off whatever Henry doesn't eat any more. I think this may be part of the reasons his numbers have been looking so good around nadir for so long lately (less food in system = less carbs to process). I still haven't moved him up to the full 2u dose and am not sure at this point that I really need to do that just yet.

Henry's stool sample, on the other hand, came back with a coccidia infection. I also had Michelangelo's tested since Mikey had it really bad when he was a kitten and I was worried he might not yet be immune to it at his young age. Luckily, his results came back negative so now I don't have to worry about whether the albon contains sugar or the parasite might spike his BG. :-D

But, how the hell do I get 2.5mLs of albon into Henry? That's his starting dose (then it drops to 1.25 for the next 5 days) and this morning I was only able to get about half of it in him. I'm going to wait before I try again in a bit to get the other half in him because I think right now that we're both still a little traumatized from my first attempt. Mikey was much easier to dose with this because he was so little so he was easier to hold and required less of the stuff. Any suggestions besides kitty-burritoing Henry and prying his mouth open?

Poor Henry, but I think the burrito might just be necessary. How awful tasting is it, could it be mixed in food? Maybe something really special like baby food! or tuna!!!

Hi guys .. awww, what a sweet mikey is to miss henry!! I hear ya on the 5:30 a.m. wake up calls .. mocha does the same thing and won't stop till I figure out EXACTLY what is she wants! And if you've ever heard a siamese howling out in the middle of the night, you darn well figure out what it is they want  have a great day guys!

My last cat, Patrick, was a full-on conversationalist and I swear he was actually trying to speak English. His particular favorite word to use whenever I was doing something he didn't like was "NOOOOooooooooooo!" And then he'd chirrup, "Hi-hi" to me whenever he'd first see me (whether it was me coming home or entering a room he was in or even when he entered a room I was in).

Michelangelo really does not talk at all. He growls a bit when he's displeased, but that's about it. At first I thought he just didn't meow, like my former Little Kat (who could howl like nobody's business, though!). Then one day, I heard him cheeping at his mouse. He talks more frequently now, but only to inanimate objects, like the chair he's having a conversation with right now. Henry also seems a little on the quiet side, but that's just because he still has that soft kitten mewling sound. I have a feeling Henry is going to be quite talkative the older he gets.

Aww its so nice they are getting along so well. It was such a great decision to get a second kitty!

I know! I'm still a little bummed I didn't get a special needs cat, but I think there was definitely a reason why I couldn't find any available: Henry was the one meant for our home. :-D

I had to give albon to civie Minkie - it was banana flavoured (weird!) and he didn't like it but I also had to give him flaghl-suspension chicken flavour and he absolutely hated that (foaming at the mouth etc..) so the albon actually went down ok :-D
It was easier if DH helped though.

I don't think it tastes that awful to the cats and they even flavor it.** It's just a LOT of liquid to squirt into a squirming kitten's mouth at once even though I tried doing it in smaller segments, which is when I stopped at halfway and decided to give us a break. I'll see about mixing it into some food, but they've both still got food left over from their breakfast 4 hours ago so they're not hungry at the moment.

**ETA: Now my secret is out, I haven't personally tried it, nor would I ever be able to.

I wasn't going to say anything because I didn't want to sound too crazy, but there is only one food that I actually physically detest more than anything else on this planet and wish it was banished forever into space on a shuttle headed straight for the sun. I hate it so much that my roommates aren't even allowed to bring it in the house. And they flavored this stuff with it?? I was gagging the entire time I measured it out into the syringe (which took forever because the syringe they gave me was too big for the bottle so I had to fill it up from the back end). And when I was giving it to Henry, for every bit that made it into his mouth, another bit would end up on him or on me. *Blech!* The only reason I haven't taken a shower yet to get this lingering stench off me is because I still have to give him the other half. :YMSIGH:

Any homeless kitty is special needs! They all need someone to care for them and protect them!

Hi guys .. yay mikey for growing into a big boy cat!! Good luck getting the meds into henry .. and I can't believe I've found someone else with the same hatred as me for bananas!! I can't stand the smell of them either and only occassionally let peter bring one or two into the house but they must be eaten right away before they *gag* start to rot and stink up the joint!!
