Hi all. I haven't posted on Darcy for a few days. Looks like he's due to go to 10 units tomorrow. High and flat. I hope I can find a good dose soon.

You just have to keep on trucking. One of the very wise people who was on FDMB at the beginning (a vet tech), used the analogy, "be the tank. A tank always gets where it's going." You will find the dose that moves Mr. Darcy. :bighug:We all do.

How is Darcy feeling/acting these days? Sometimes you'll see improvements in behaviour as you get close to that dose that starts moving their numbers.

Hi. Thanks Wendy. I think he seems to be feeling and acting a bit better... but remember last week he also had an infection and no appetite and a little vomiting. His appetite gradually improved each day until now he's back to eating many huge bowls of food each day. He's been pretty affectionate and doing some of the things he used to do before FD. This morning his (frozen from last week) blood was sent of the University of Michigan for the IAA and Acro tests. I'm nervous about getting those results back... also though, anxious to get them back... oh... I don't know.... I'm actually DREADING (I am getting teary-eyed as I type this) to get the results back because I'm so terrified that he really does have acromegaly... which just sounds so horrible... like a painful, eventual death sentence... and he's only almost ten years old in a few months. Yesterday, I was reading that, at North Carolina State University they do the SRT radiation and the cost is about $4,500 - $6,500.

I know I dreaded getting the answer too, but when I did, I had a huge sense of relief that know I knew what was happening. And it meant I could start planning what to do to tackle it. If you can get SRT for the price you quote, that's a good price. I paid just a bit lower than that in 2012. NCSU is also a very good place to go. One of the leading US researchers on acromegaly at the time of Neko's diagnosis is at NCSU now - she was at Colorado State University previously, and she was one of the pioneers in SRT for acromegaly. SRT made a huge difference in Neko's quality of life. She had some arthritis, which was the worst of the symptoms for a long time. She lived for 5 years with acromegaly, all but the last few months were pretty good.

Pamela's Amethyst was just 4 years old when she was diagnosed 4 years ago. She's only ever been on cabergoline as a treatment. So there are good examples of other treatments too that are reasonably priced.

And doing things Darcy used to do before FD - that's huge! :)
