?1/30 Zyler drop in BG after feeding but before insulin

It takes longer than 10 minutes after food for the pancreas to kick in to drop the numbers. In fact, it typically takes 15-20 minutes for the carbs to hit the blood stream. The early snack we suggest at smaller doses is at +8 or +9. I wouldn't start doing that yet.

That’s not entirely true. I did my thesis work on islet metabolomics and my lab mate studied glucose stimulated insulin secretion. Insulin response is biphasic, the first spike is usually within 6 minutes, the 2nd phase is more prolonged over the course of an hour or two. On the other side of sugar regulation is glucagon, which is much less studied. There’s the dawn phenomenon where glucagon raises blood sugar to provide the body enough energy for getting the body up for the day. So sometimes I wonder if I am seeing that effect as I usually catch Zyler shortly after he’s waking up. I guess to further investigate I can get some more +9-12 data points.

Good luck with your food experiment.

Interesting cat study. The study was giving even the diabetics high carb dry food! But they were fasted before the test. The test consisted of glucose into the veins, not actual food so I imagine in real life there is some processing time in there to convert the food to sugar in the blood. Observation here is that it can take 15-20 minutes for that food to show up in the BG. Plus the diabetic cat took a lot longer to show any insulin response, if they did. It would have been interesting if they had a little more data on the diabetic cat group. A newly diabetic cat in high numbers vs. a cat like Zyler who has obviously had some healing happen. Or Zyler early November vs. now.

Yea I was mainly looking at response time to glucose availability. That’s why I’m curious if it’s unrelated to food and more so response to the higher BG from potentially his body converting more shortly after waking up. I’m hesitant to say meter variance as I’ve tested him multiple times and don’t see 90 to 110 variability in the same time so I believe it’s a true difference. Overall there’s definitely a lot to learn about diabetes, I studied a small piece but when Zyler was diagnosed started learning the actually application so very much appreciate you and the group for sharing all of the experience you’ve all seen!
