First Mardi Gras season since Xander's diabetes diagnosis, so i'll have to be extra careful to hide the king cake before bed. Xander has a history of biting into bread products left on the counter :cat:

That looks sooo good. What is it?
And keep your paws off of that Xander! 🥰
That is a king cake! (our 3rd one this year lol). It's basically a traditional cinnamon brioche type of cake decorated in icing and yellow, green, and purple sugar that are made before Mardi Gras. There is a plastic baby hidden inside, and whoever gets that piece buys the next one. It's by far my favorite part of Mardi Gras, i'm not too much into the parades as I was when I was a child or in college. Every bakery in the area has a unique take on it,. This particular one is from a Vietnamese bakery called Dong Phuong that has become sort of the standard, leading to a huge demand. I stood in line an hour today to get one 😆

I knew there had to be a tradition somewhere related. Very interesting.
It looks delicious! I’m jealous 😘
The brioche reminds me of an incredible one we had on a food tour in Provence from the oldest bakery in the city of Aix. I still dream of that treat 💓🥰
Thanks for the explanation and enjoy a piece for me 💓

Having lived in the New Orleans area my whole life, I sometimes forget Mardi Gras is only here :p
