Good Friday Morning, Everyone,

Rusty had a good night snuggling with his beans. He ate all of his nighttime food and this morning had a good first sitting of his breakfast. I served Instinct Rabbit & Pork Liver to him for the first time. His FF T&G was in one half of the bowl, and the Rabbit in the other half. So far he has eaten only the rabbit and saved the FF to graze on later this morning! Looks like he likes it (at least for now). I bought 2 cans, so we'll see. @Deanna & Billie : I served the rabbit because you said Billie likes it and that it doesn't bother her allergies. Stay tuned!

Snowing this morning. Some of "our" deer family (mama deer and her two yearlings) were under the bird feeders, hoovering up the fallen sunflower seeds. They have really thick hides this very cold winter.

Wishing you all a happy Friday. TGIF! And a fine weekend. May the best team win! (I don't follow football -- baseball is my sport-- but I always watch the Superbowl, just to see what's what. I understand football because I was in my high school marching band and we played at every game in all kinds of weather.)

Healing vines to all in need,

Ella & Rusty

Nice start for Rusty today....hopefully he'll report to the lagoon for duty later on. Wise choice, only buying 2 cans of a new fuds to start! Any more than that, and you know what happens ....

Have a great day, Ella!!

Morning Ella :coffee::coffee::coffee:

A nice leisurely blue for Rusty. I bet he heads off to the flagon. How nice to have found another food that he likes. I can so remember when it was Wellness Turkey for him. Reminds me of Mannie. he was a strictly wellness cat for some time. Nice on the rabbit Rusty!

Here you guys are cold and snowy, we are somewhat warm at 50/55 and sunny. Very cool on the deer. How wonderful to be able to see them so often.

and..... GO HAWKS! lol, gotta root for the home team. :woot:

Enjoy your day Ella!

@Marje and Gracie : I just saw your comment in Rusty's 1/27 condo about holding off on Instinct foods because they started using a different kind of "m..." clay: sodium instead of calcium. I fed him the rabbit this morning and he likes it!!! What is the problem with the sodium clay??

Edited to add that I called the company and the phone person said that calcium and sodium are both found in Montmorillonite clay, but that in the clay that they use the % of calcium is higher than the % of sodium. What does this mean for us???

Well our two started out together, but I hope Rusty went the other direction!

Tess Prefers the Dave's T&G, have you tried that? Also the Nulo that they carry at PetSmart looks pretty good and Tess loves it!

The LagoonMeister is on duty this afternoon. :D
Rusty came into the kitchen, enthusiastically anticipating his lunch (this rarely happens) and dug into the Instinct Rabbit half of his bowl immediately. I hope the Montmorillonite clay isn't going to be an issue. And . . . I just learned from one of the cat food sites that the rabbit meat in the Instinct Rabbit & Pork Liver formula comes from China (all of the other formulas are made with completely USA-sourced ingredients). Of course this would be the case!:arghh:

@Ann & Tess : I only had one can of Dave's T&G and that was a while ago. Rusty seemed to like it. I had planned to get more in the city, before we had to depart so quickly. In March I'll try again. The store in Plattsburgh only carries the 95% line of Dave's and the limited-ingredient line). I have looked at the ingredients on the Nulo cans and all of the flavors have fish in them (Rusty is allergic to fish).

It can contain dioxins, aflatoxins, and can suppress the immune system. I'm sorry I said the clay was ok but I did additional looking later that day and found they were using the sodium montmorillonite. I definitely would not feed any food that any ingredient was sourced in China. I'm looking at foods that are 100% sourced in the US or New Zealand.

Isn't it crazy what pet food manufacturers can put in the foods? Because of the carrageenan in canned foods and how I felt they were the cause of Tobey's on again/off again soft stools, I switched him to Primal raw and he's been doing fantastic. His poos are perfect. Also being concerned that some of what Gracie is seeing in vomiting might be inflammation from carrageenan, I also wanted to change her food to raw but no matter what I try, she barfs it.....always 1.5 hours after eating. I just tried Feline Natural freeze dry raw last night thinking because it has to be rehydrated with warm water, that she would do ok with it. Nope. I've changed her to Wild Calling because it has no carrageenan but it does have guar gum and cassia gum. Even Hounds and Gatos has those two constituents and H&G is supposed to be a very high quality food; although I have heard that starting Dec, 2014, they have dropped all gums from their foods and there is no carrageenan in them. So when I can get that, I'll try it.

BTW, Tobey and Gracie both LOVED the Feline Natural, chicken and lamb.

What a nice day for Rusty and WCR. I'm glad he likes his rabbit. Good thing you only bought two cans or he definitely wouldn't. ;) Have a great day!!

@Marje and Gracie : Thanks, Marje. Now I'll be taking the cans of Instinct back to PetSmart the next time I go to Plattsburgh. Too bad Rusty really liked the rabbit!!! He is generally unmotivated by food, and I was so happy to see him enthusiastic about that one. Bummer!

Isn't that just the way it goes. Find a food that seems good, cat likes it...and wham. China! Sorry.

Hounds and Gato Chicken is a so-so hit here. And available at my local independent pet store.

Love the deer image. We have a pretty big herd of Mule Deer that winter at the sanctuary. They know no hunting is allowed, I think! Buggers are so comfortable there, they just saunter down the middle of the road ambling to their destination. Really cool. Tons of wild turkeys, too. They surround my car when I get to work 'cuz they know I have the hand that feeds them. Well, throws out the scratch for their breffis!

I hear you on the high school band stuff. Fall in Wisconsin isn't always fine marching weather. My trumpet and I shivered lots on those football Fridays.

Have an excellent weekend. Keep up the down numbers Rusty.

I'm sorry for Rusty but Meg is very happy to hear that the Instinct must be returned!

LagoonMeister back on duty :D Vyktor must have snuck over for a visit too if he headed for the flagon as suggested by Michelle :woot:

Great day for Rusty! :D

I don't know why rabbit is so hard to source here. The brand of raw food I serve used to have a rabbit product (which the furkids loved and would get as a treat), but they stopped carrying it because they could no longer find a source of organic non medicated rabbit in Canada.

So, what instrument did you play? I wimped out and played flute and/or piccolo. Easy to carry in a marching band. Only once did I have to play outside where the cold mouthpiece wanted to stick to my lips.

Hi Ella and Rusty! I'm glad Rusty liked the rabbit but I'm bummed to hear that it isn't such a good option after all. @Marje and Gracie, thanks for that info! It is so tricky to find food that is a win/win all around. Instinct also makes pork and Billie has been doing well with that. I'm not sure where the pork is sourced from though, and that doesn't solve the clay issue. Hmmm. Billie had Hound & Gatos in her rotation before her food allergy drama. She liked their chicken and their lamb & duck. But since poultry might be the allergen, she hasn't had it in a while. They do make a straight pork option, but she doesn't like it. Sometimes I think about testing the waters with H & G but I chicken out (hah) because I don't want to rock the boat. We'll see. I hope you find something safe and delicious for Rusty!

Sorry, Ella....hated to break the news to Rusty but even if the clay wasn't an issue, I'd worry about the sourcing.

When I was at the feed store today getting Tobey's venison and Gracie's Wild Calling, I talked to the manager there. They really try to carry the better foods. She said they had been hearing some things about WN and we're going to check it out. If it pans out, they will drop them. It just shouldn't be so hard to find a low carb food that doesn't have dangerous components.

Glad to see Rusty at the Lagoon!

clarinet and tenor sax:cool::cool:

Thanks for visiting, everyone. Rusty had Wellness Core turkey & duck this evening as half of his dinner, but it looks like it spiked his bgs. And he didn't even eat it all. So I'm sticking with FF T&G and Dave's 95% turkey until I can get back to the city. I also have about a half case of Wild Calling chicken and one can of the Wild Calling rabbit. Rusty was not thrilled with Wild Calling after the first few cans. I'd really like to try ZwiPeak, but I'm afraid because he is allergic to fish and the Green Mussel, while not a fish, is a seafood.
@Marje and Gracie : I'll be interested to hear what your store manager finds out about Wellness, Marje.
