Good morning all,
Lou finally made it back to the lagoon after that NS on Sunday, although it took him a bit longer than I thought it would. He surfed last night, but considering he started at 68, I am surprised at how high he stayed. I'll have to keep an eye on that. (I like how I say that like I wouldn't be paying attention. :p) I hope he keeps the surfing up today.

I woke up this morning and my phone said the real temp was -33F. I don't even want to know what the windchill is. :nailbiting: We upped the heat in the house a degree to combat the chill. I am SO thankful we have central air/gas-forced heating in our place. SO much better than stupid baseboard heating. Apparently it's supposed to get "warmer" today and get up to -17F or so. I have to start my car here soon (Poor thing is out in the elements). Thankfully I have nowhere I need to be today. :joyful:

Wow, that is COLD! Happy to hear that you have good heating in your house. Our house (build in 1923) was also built for frigid winters. We have radiators/ hot-water heat fired by an oil burner. Those radiators stay nice and warm even when the furnace is "resting".
Stay warm and safe. It is awful to comprehend that because of the fracturing of the polar vortex the warm air is being swept up to the North Pole while the frigid air gets swept down. Bad for everything, especially the Arctic.

Those are more like the temps I get in winter! I couldn't imagine having a house with baseboard heat only. Forced air or radiators are the way to go. Unless you are lucky enough to have in floor heating- now THAT is nice!
 
I love our electric baseboard except when we lose power. Each room can be individually controlled.

@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) we had steam radiators in previous house. Lived there 22yrs and the previous owners were born and raised in the house. Built late 1800's. It was always cold in the house never warmer than 66 in the winter. Year after year we had repair people come in. Thermostat always kicked in properly. New boiler installed. Switched from oil to gas. New window and doors, super insulated the walls and still never above 66. It came time to redo the dining room. I bought a new thermostat (just the dial kind that was there). Hubby goes to put it in. Low and behold the old dial still had the packing pin in place at the 66 mark. No one ever checked the dial. 22+ years and thousands of dollars later we have a warm house and then we move.

No worries! I cannot fathom going through at that! And it's good to know. I would have never known those dial thermostats even had packing pins. :facepalm:

It surprisingly feels warmer today. The wind died down apparently. When the temps go up it's going to totally feel like shorts weather! :p

That is quite a story! But I'll bet it saved you a ton of money on heating fuel by not going above 66 (maybe not as much as you spent "fixing" it!)

I had 20 Below Zero at 2 am & it stayed that way all day! Tonight 24 below!

Wow. That really stinks, but I'm glad you are enjoying your electic baseboard heaters now.
