Hi All,
Can anyone give me advice on something? I've been giving Daphne about a tbsp. of EVO 95% (her usual food), as a treat/snack, after every test and, until I read last night on someones condo, that we were not supposed to give any food @+10, +11, (she is really hungry, and looks at me for that reward after the test)... and when I look at her SS, it doesn't look like she is a spiker to me. So the question is, what can I do for a treat and/or can I give her that tbsp. @+10, and +11, since she isn't much of a spiker?

I always gave Binks the Purebites freeze-dried chicken as a treat after pokies...zero carbs!
and my cats are nuts about it...it's like "Kitty Crack"

Daphne...you are looking wonderful!

You are looking great Daphne!

I give Vyktor a few pieces of raw chicken (1-2 tsp) as his treats, I think also zero carbs. If Daphne gets something different that is extra special at +10 +11 time she might like that even more than getting some of her regular food

Atticus starts begging around +10 and +11, too, and I've also been giving him the freeze-dried chicken.

Ordinarily, you don't want to feed 2 hours prior to shot time. Otherwise, as you noted, there's the possibility of a food spike at shot time. However, Daphne's SS is interesting. If you've been giving a treat at AM +10 and +11, you've got green pre-shots. You're not testing at PM +10 or +11 and you're seeing blue pre-shots. Interesting!

With cats who's pancreas is beginning to kick in and produce it's own insulin, when you feed, the pancreas starts to produce endogenous insulin in response to food and spontaneously lowers the numbers.

I'd keep an eye on her numbers. If you don't keep seeing a pattern of a green PMPS, maybe then consider a different treat.

Thank you Celi, Serryn, Monica, for the great advice. I actually was at my local pet shop and she recommended that freeze dried chicken, but I didn't think it looked very appetizing, (I'm also vegetarian, I only eat milk, eggs, sometime fish..I see Serryn you are vegan…isn't this hard to be feeding our cats this stuff? I like your picture too from anti-vivisection, or Peta, I belong to both, or one of the many groups, I think I belong to all of them…I must have 30 calendars each yr.!)

I'll go tomorrow to see if Daphne will like them. I just can't think of cooking the chicken, so I hope she likes the freeze dried...

Ok, Sienne, sorry, I was replying to the other post. I have to read your post a few more times :? I just knew something was strange about Daphne's SS, but could not put it into words, and I'm still having trouble from what you said. I'll read it again, or have my DH read it, my brain doesn't work so well these days, but it sounds like you are on to something.

Re: 1/30 Daphne AMPS 103, + 8 85, +11 91 PMPS 97

Hi Sienne,
My DH and I both read your post… and we sure do see a discrepancy with AMPS and PMPS. This is our schedule w/ Daphne, DH does the AMPS and I do the PMPS, so he said, maybe we are both guessing the 1.75 a bit differently, so we are going to do a water check with the syringe and see if we are both figuring it out the same. But the other thing in Daphne's schedule is my sleep time and DH work time. I sleep between 3:00AM to 1:30PM, and I am on the floor @ 11:30pm each night (helps with my back pain), and Daphne isn't asking me for much food at that time, since I'm right next to her and I don't go into the kitchen), so when my DH gives her the AMPS @5:30, she hasn't had food for 6 hrs., but during the day when I get up, I feed her 1/8th or tbsp. of EVO almost every hour or two, and I was always feeding her a little at +10 +11. So DH said, if what you said about the pancreas is happening, then maybe the reason she is higher at the AMPS then the PMPS is the opposite of what should be happening, which is the food is triggering her pancreas to work… so that means her pancreas may be healthy, and maybe something else is not…have no idea what.

We would love to hear any opinions on this puzzle?? confused_cat

We use the freeze dried chicken, too...Trix loves them.

DH and I are also vegan, so yep - it's a challenge having a herd of carnivores in the house. Like you, I can open a can of cat food, but I couldn't make my own cat food, either.

I wish it was a Central NJ thing...then there'd be more restaurants for us to choose from! Oh well...I love cooking anyway.

Have a great night!

I wouldn't throw out the possibility that you are just seeing the dawn phenomenon in the morning so the AMPS is higher than the PMPS. I've heard Jill say many times that the AMPS is the last number to come down.

Oh brother, Marjorie, just when I thought I had it all figured out, I know, with these cats, I think they always have the last laugh. Just look at the things they train us to do! But really, I did wonder about that, if the light of day had anything to do with it.

Well, I'm doing an experiment, we (with help from another smart lady) are going to feed Daphne at PM +10 and see what happens. Tune in tomorrow after 2 in the afternoon  and (fingers crossed and anti-jinx)

I love experiments too, but don't have the first bit of knowledge when it comes to anything scientific. So I will post the "results" as soon as I wake up! There are so many smart people on this site, I don't know what I'm doing here

Cafe Galleria in Lambertville has some good options. And Sprig and Vine in New Hope is all vegan, very good, but a bit fancy and pricey. Nomand in Hopewelll will make a vegan pizza that is fabulous (plus, I worked for and with the owners for a very long time at Thomas Sweet in Princeton...cool guys.) There is an incredible veggie retauraing in South Hampton called Blue Sage, but it's a bit of a haul - but well worth it! I think Pennington could use another Italian or Chinese restaurant, though...what do you think ;-) !

Good luck with your experiment...Daphne looks great!

I hate it, it's especially hard giving him the chicken when I have one. I get free range at least and just try to divorce my brain.

That picture is actually of me. It was shot by Choose Cruelty Free in Australia but they let anyone use their images for the cause so it has gone all over the world with various slogans and been translated into several different languages.

Amy, thanks for all the restaurant names! I've been feeling so bad lately I haven't been out much in the past few years, so I guess a few Vegan restaurants popped up in that time. My neighbor was raving about one… when I see her I'll ask the name. OH, yes, we sure do need more Chinese and Italian restaurants in Pennington!

Serryn, wow, what a great picture!
