Holy Moley!!! I saw Champ's AMPS this morning, sighed, gave him his food and shot him with new insulin, and went back to bed since I didn't have any work this morning (I work at home doing medical transcription). He usually comes and gets me when it's time for his next meal, right around 9, though he sometimes gets lazy and keeps napping. I got up at 10, went into the living room, and see a little sleepy kitty face poke up from the midst of a bunch of blankets on the couch. I asked him why he didn't come ask for some food and he just gave me his blinky sleepy kitty look. I fixed up some food for him and called him to come over to eat, but he wasn't budging until.....he heard the bag of freeze dried chicken being opened. THAT made him get up!!! He loves a sprinkling of that on top of his food. I was very surprised to see a 68 when I checked him! I guess his old pen was a goner for sure. I gave him a small spoonful of FF Elegant Medleys with the rest of his food to keep him from going down any further. Just for everyone's benefit who doesn't know Champ... he is a very carb sensitive cat so he never gets gravy or HC food. Even when he gets into the 30's (and he has done that a time or two), he only gets Elegant Medleys which is about 13%. Even in the 30's, he's never ever shown signs of hypo. Most times, like today, when he goes into the 50's or 60's, he's usually chilling out, sleeping, and you'd never know he had such a steep drop. When he does hit the 30's or 40's, he ALWAYS asks for food, and he's persistent about it which is how I know he's low. He loves his food and asks for it all the time, but when he's persistent about it, even when I ignore him, I know there's a reason. I try to test him every three hours or so for the first half of each cycle so I can catch any steep drops since he doesn't usually give me any physical signs that it's happening. Unfortunately, today I slept through it. I have to leave the house in about an hour and I'll definitely check him again before I leave. Depending on his numbers, he'll either get his regular food or a nice helping of Elegant Medleys. Believe it of not, Las Vegas has a China Town. It's really just a huge strip mall that was converted into a China Town. It has tons of restaurants and stores. I'm going to head over there with a friend this afternoon in search of bonito flakes for Champ. That cat is completely addicted to them!! They're so expensive when you buy them online as a cat treat. I'm hoping they're less expensive in an Asian store that sells it for people to cook with. We shall see!!
I hope everyone is having a great Friday!!!
