Hi all,

Yesterday’s post:

Researching food today. I think we are going to change brands and stick with chicken. This way we can see if it’s an additive (by-product, gum, etc) without complicating things with other proteins.

Weruva, Tiki After Dark, and Koha all have a product that meets the criteria (low carb, lower phosphorus, chicken pate). Hopefully he likes one of them.

Thank you all for the help yesterday, I really appreciate it.

Have a great day! - Tim

It's always such a tedious process to figure out which of 100 different factors is "the problem." I understand your frustration at this happening right as his BG was getting so under control too. I hope Pookey picks up on the new food(s) right away and you're able to narrow down what's bothering him!

As a sidenote, thank you for liking my posts! It makes me feel seen and I appreciate it.

Thanks Brianna! I like keeping up with kitties and their experiences on this journey :)

Good luck with the change, I hope Pookey likes the new food.
That was a great thing with Bella, she always loved changing foods, almost any new food was an instant favorite (except for the Purina MD, she hated that one).
Pookey's numbers are great, Pookey the green King :D

Thanks Cecile, that was a nice perk that she was like that, maybe she will pass that on to Pookey :bighug:

Tim, did you look at Truluxe (Weruva)? I've been looking at that entire line. I'm just wondering if you looked at it and ruled it out for any reason. Also, what are you looking for in terms of low phos %? I've read that below .50 is best. Is that what you're reading? BTW it's a fulltime job researching foods.

I saw that line and they look good! Low carb and low phos. I focused on chicken only and didn’t see that in Truluxe, so I went with the Press Your Dinner Chicken.

For the phos level, anything under 200 mg/100kcal seems sufficient. The FF pates are like 500 mg/100kcal…

It’s tough too because some companies list percentage “minimum” for ingredients but I don’t think that’s reliable to go off of.

No, you're correct; it's not reliable. But I believe the Weruva analysis on their website (the "ME" measurement) is the actual measurement. According to Dr. Lisa, you can write the company and ask for the Typical Nutrient Analysis (actual measurement) of a food (vs. the Guaranteed Analysis, which is the min/max that's typically listed on the container).

I think I'm going to give the Truluxe a try and see if Jude will eat them. Jude's picky. He doesn't like the Weruva or the Tiki. I've not heard of Kona; I'll have to check it out.

Spelling correction: it's "Koha" > https://kohapet.com/collections/shop-all-cat

Angela sent a PDF yesterday that I was using as a starting point for values not listed on websites. There’s a whole section on just Weruva. Link is here.

Jason, I looked at those but the label says they are a supplemental food source, not a balanced diet.

Yes, I think it's not balanced because the phos is way lower than the AAFCO minimum levels. I don't feed it full-time, but probably at least 50% of the time.

Kona tested posted on the RenalTech for prediction of CKD and my vet had no concerns and encouraged me to feed it as much as I wanted to help with CKD progressing into stages.

We do blood work regularly, so should be able to keep an eye on any imbalance.
