I'm not a prognosticator or anything, but I was still right that Michelangelo was going to have a high, flat run last night. I gave him another 1.88u this morning and will be running home on my lunch to see how he's doing at nadir, but I'm not too worried anymore at this point. <-- famous last words
Last night, he was weighing on the heavy side of that 9.8 to 10.6 pound range, so I have a feeling he's going to need to an increase soon. I'm only working from home again on Thursday, so if I need to bump him up to the full 2u, that will have to wait until at least Thursday night or Friday. Definitely the most difficult part of the whole thing is making sure he's getting enough insulin for his increasing weight/BG numbers but not getting too much too soon.
In other news, it's so lovely to have two kittens frolicking around the house. Mikey is finally getting the exercise he's been craving and Hank has someone who can meet his demands for attention. Michelangelo is such a good boy during his testing that no matter how bothersome Henry is, he'll remain still and wait for me to finish. Henry, however, makes it difficult because he'll sit on top of the meter or shove his way under my arm while I'm aiming the lancet. So, usually when I test Michelangelo, I have to feed Henry at the same time to distract him. I always feel bad because it's like I'm punishing Mikey by making him wait for his food until after I'm done testing him. Last night, Henry was off somewhere doing important little kitten things so I didn't have to distract him. Or so I thought. I was halfway through the test when Henry came over and shoved his way onto my lap next to Mikey. And then he just sat there, curiously watching what I was doing. When I finished, Michelangelo jumped off my lap and Henry moved into Mikey's testing position. When I didn't test him, he began gently headbutting my hand, so I played with his ears and petted him a few times and then gave them both treats.
This whole time I was worried about Mikey feeling left out with a new kitten but it was Henry who felt left out of the testing!
I was tempted to test Henry last night because I just wanted to see a normal cat's BG number for once, but I figured since he doesn't need regular testing, I'd hold off poking him in the ear until he was more consistently looking for his own turn to test. Does this ever happen with your civvies? Do any of you guys also test your civvies? If so, how often?
