My spouse takes the responsibility of giving Fortune and Marty (our other boy) their food, and giving shots/meds. This morning is the second time he forgot to give Fortune his shot - in one week - and gave it to him 90 minutes later.

Historically, before I found this group, he would administer the shot whenever he remembered - sometimes 14 hours a part, sometimes 8 hours. Our vet had given the direction of “about 12 hours,” and my partner took the “about” part literally.

I explained that we need to move the time forward for the evening shot, and gradually move 15 minutes back to get to the time we want to administer the shot.

Poor Fortune has had four missed shots in 3.5 weeks, and two of them were administered “late.” I’m trying to figure out with DH how we can know if the shot has been given (I have lots of ideas) but it’s a cruddy situation.

Sorry about the delayed shot - you may have already seen this post on moving back to your desired shot time but just sharing incase you haven't seen it.

I've heard some people put two syringes in a cup every day, some do a mini white board. I personally write it down in a notebook after I shoot. I'm sure there are other ideas and you'll find one that works for you all.

Hope fortune slides down for you :bighug:

Sheesh...

I hope you can get him to read the info Susanne shared in the previous post. Lantus tends to work best with consistency...consistent dosing times and consistently getting it am and pm...every single day..

I have to set a timer on my phone to remind me twice a day - yep, even after all this time - to test/feed/shoot...heck I've had to set a 2nd one so I didn't forget she was eating and then gets her shot!!! Do you have timers that can be set for twice a day to do the routine? Test/feed/Shoot? I have to use it every day...otherwise the day would slip away as I get involved with work and other distractions...one minute it's 5:30 a.m. and the next thing I know it's 9:30 a.m.! What happened???

I feel your pain...get some help from automation...

I wish I had a fun tip for you on how to get him to remember. I dunno. All of Butters' supplies sit in a basket on my kitchen counter (except the insulin of course) so I think seeing it out all of the time just makes me remember. Hopefully you can get him into the routine of remembering through setting alarms on his phone until it becomes second nature. :bighug:

Thanks all! We are trying, and I know slip ups happen, just so hard. I read that article, but I’ll be sure to share it with him :p maybe that’s the missing piece.
