Good morning, LL! And what a fine morning it is!
Ripley greeted me in her usual perky way: with 'good morning' meows and begging for a water drip in the tub! Then, (and this is the best part!), I went to check the LB, and she jumped in, peed, then pooed a rather nice (not perfect) poo! It was more of a cylinder than a sphere, and not as much struggle to push it out! I think she felt pretty darn proud of herself. And what timing! It was as if she was saying, "mommy! look what I can do!"

I'm still going to do the enema tonight, so we can clear out as much as possible, then start with the regular dosing of Miralax in her b'fast & dinner.
Question: ECID, but what's a good start? 1/8 tsp. twice a day? Or 1/4 tsp?

I wish everyone well and I'm sending vines to ailing and healing kitties; also sending hugs to all the newbies and newly-diagnosed Sugarcats. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 1/18 Ripley AMPS 196, poo, & Miralax dose question

Hi guys .. yay for poo's! I think the starting dose for miralax is 1/8tsp .. but wait for others to verify first .. I hope you guys have a great day!

Re: 1/18 Ripley AMPS 196, poo, & Miralax dose question

Typically, people start with 1/8 teaspoon twice a day and then gauge how much based on their cat's response.

Morning Josie ~O) ~O) ~O)

What a nice blue start for Ripley today. Good luck with the Miralax. I hope it helps Ripley in the long run. Too fun with the LB this morning. She sure wnated you to see. :-D

Enjoy your day today.

1/28 Ripley AMPS 196, +10.5 234; vomit/bg quest.

So tonight I'm giving Ripley her enema; because I have to wait until DH gets home to assist me, the enema will take place soon after her dose and dinner.
There's a VERY good chance she'll vomit while the enema is taking effect.

:?: Should I be concerned about her numbers tonight? How fast/slow does insulin get absorbed with an empty tummy?
She's at 234 (!!!), and shot is still about 2 hrs away...

ETA: I just got brave and wanted to see if I could do it on my own. Ripley's so trusting, she let me get as far as inserting the pet-ema, but I found that I need 2 hands in order to press the plunger slowly. So I took it out, and half a minute later she threw up :? . (Just water, though.)
That was just a test run; the real thing is later... nailbite_smile nailbite_smile nailbite_smile

ETA #2: DH got home early. We're biting the bullet and going to do the enema now. Her shot/dinner is in a 1/2 hr..... nailbite_smile nailbite_smile nailbite_smile nailbite_smile nailbite_smile

Re: 1/28 Ripley AMPS 196, +10.5 234; vomit/bg quest.

**Warning: The following isn't for the squeamish.**

Wow. That was fast. DH held Ripley while I did the deed. Within 30 secs. of removing the emptied syringe, she went to the LB and out came some mushy poo. It wasn't as much as I thought there'd be. Maybe more to follow? Then she vomitted, but nothing came out.
She's now cleaning 'down there,' but keeps smacking her lips; I'm sure the blue contents of the enema solution doesn't taste good. Oh, now vomitting again. And back to the LB.

I'll keep y'all posted... Perfect dinner time conversation,eh?

Re: 1/28 Ripley AMPS 196, +10.5 234; vomit/bg quest.

Josie, good luck with everything, and I'm glad DH is there to help. I remember John saying PurrFace did the vomit thing, too, during the enema. Keep us posted and sending enema vines. :-D

1/28 Ripley PMPS 245; vomit/bg quest.; update

Thank you Ella and Ann! The vines helped!!

...meanwhile in poo-ville....

Ripley used the LB a total of 3 times (yippee!!!), vomited twice, then wanted some tub water  .
I reluctantly let her out of the bathroom (wasn't sure if she was 'done'), then she went to her rocking chair, and purred as I petted her. :-D
She is eating her dinner now (w/Miralax), and everything seems to be normal!

You should've seen how I prepared the bathroom for the Event: you'd think I was getting ready for an explosion!! It took me longer to pick up all those wall-to-wall puppy-pads than the actual Event itself!  She was quite neat and discreet; perhaps even graceful (I wonder if that word has ever been used to describe
an enema   ).

I'm just so relieved it's done. I don't know if it's 'over' yet, but the actual procedure is in the past.
And, quite honestly, I'd do it again if I had to ~ it really wasn't that difficult ~ but hopefully I won't need to use those extra Pet-ema syringes I bought...

Thanks for all the support with this, LL folks! I couldn't have/wouldn't have done it without you!

Cheers!

Re: 1/28 Ripley PMPS 245; vomit/bg quest.; update

Josie Congrats on your 1st enema--It is Very Common for cat to vomit after an enema..so you dont have to worry--Moonie has had about 4-5 enemas at the vet over last 2 mths & has vomited every time, also I read about that in many articles. Guess this is something I cant do myself Right??
Glad you got a good result :-D --1/8 tsp Miralax a day should keep Ripley regular.

BTW She may go some more, can go for several hours after...Good Job!!
Dont worry her bg will go down..Kitties Unplugged
Have a good Night--Hugs from us!

Re: 1/28 Ripley PMPS 245; vomit/bg quest.; update

I'm glad it's over for you both and it wasn't as bad as you thought. You are such an awesome mom. I hope her BG will start to come down and you can keep her regular now. Poor, sweet Ripley!

Roni -- Kitties Unplugged!! Love it! Sorry your Moonie has gone through this so much recently.

Anne -- Thanks! She's such a good kitty, so forgiving.

Marje -- Thank you. I'm hoping to see her beautiful greens again soon. I miss them.

Ripley is sleeping.
She ate all of her dinner, then got her A/B dose. Poor girl has has quite a night. Only one more poke later (+6), then sweet dreams.

Hi Josie, congrats on a successful enema. Wow, what a difference in her numbers! I guess from the sounds of it, a second person is helpful. Hope you get some good rest. Some Miralax maintenance now should keep her regular. Great job with the enema.
