Well I panicked this morning and did not give Pumpkin his AM shot, since his BG was 103. In light of the fact that I am out at work all day until about 6:30 tonight and could not test further throughout the day, did I do the right thing? Or should I have given him just some of the insulin?

We typically suggest that someone who is new to Lantus use 150 as their "post and ask for help" number. There's usually a few people around in the morning who can help you weigh the options. You took a safe option.

You might want to take a look at the Shooting & Handling Low Numbers sticky just in case no one sees your post.

Given you werent home and dont have data on how Pumpkin will behave I dont know if I would have shot either. But given I missed the shot I wouldnt have given high carb food since he is probably going to be rising now anyway.

Morning guys, you have to do what you feel is safe. Like Sienne said you can ask for help and recheck your amps 30 min after without food and see is Pumpkin was rising. It is hard when you are not going to be home, I know the feeling! Have a great Monday!

I haven't had a chance to welcome you and Pumpkin to Lantus Land so welcome to our close-knit group. We are here to help as much as possible. Any questions you have, let us know.

Any time you get a number that you aren't comfortable with, please post and ask for help. There's almost always someone around :-D

When we don't shoot in the morning, the "AMPS" becomes the AMBG and if you don't shoot in the evening, the PMPS is the PMBG. AMPS and PMPS are the numbers you get before you shoot while AMBG and PMBG just indicate the morning and evening blood glucose numbers and let us know you did not shoot.

No hurry at all, but when you can, if you don't mind changing the AMPS 103 to AMBG 103 then we know you didn't shoot. Also, once your question has been answered, we'd really appreciate it if you could remove the "?" or we'll keep checking in to see if you need assistance.

Pumpkin doing well today! Hope we see a blue surf.
