1/28 George AMPS 141, PMPS 69

That would explain his not so George bg lately. If checking for infection the vet needs a sterile sample though. That means bringing him there.

Do you see any benefit in bringing my own sample first? George is so horrible at the vet they have to put him completely under to do any type of examination or tests.

That’s tough. The problem is if there’s bacteria it might not mean infection. I don’t know how you can catch a sterile sample. Have you ever brought in a sample that was negative?

I would try it! See if he'll let you hover around him with a ladle, so you can get a sterile sample -- I worked as a vet's assistant for many years and we always had people try to get the sample at home if possible -- just so long as it's kept refrigerated before you bring it in. But if he's like Sunny, he won't let you near him at the litter box :( I hope he cooperates for you!

I have a spare cheap litterbox solely for urine samples for vet. I just sprinkle like a very small handful in one corner, and he pees in the opposite (empty) side. I take the litter out, pour into cup, and refrigerate. 24 hrs is max you can refrigerate. Then I sterilize the box after (and before I use it the next time).

He's never had a UTI and they've all come back negative ha it's always been some other issue

As much as I hope it's nothing, sometimes it's nice to have an explanation for the BGs

Brilliant! I could never get anything under my cats to catch a sample.

I talked to the vet and we’re going to start with a sample that I bring in since he has a history of “aggression” at the vet (their words :banghead:…this cat) and then go from there.

I have a breeze litter box so I’m thinking I’ll sterilize it and then leave the pee pad out and just collect from the tray once he goes. Hopefully that will give us a good enough place to start from to see if he needs to be brought in or not.

I try to leave the vet visits for when I know they’re needed or for when he’s due for multiple things because he’s kind of embarrassingly bad there. I’m like “I swear he’s not like this at home” but I’m sure they don’t believe me. He was there in September for a comprehensive exam, bloodwork, etc., but peeing outside of the box isn’t normal for him.

I have only brought a sample in one other time (before I had the breeze, so I used the special non-absorbent sand stuff) and they actually said it looked ok that time, so here’s to hoping this sample that I get today is usable.

I'm sure they do believe you! I was chatting with the tech last time I brought Mr Kitty in (also quite aggressive), and i said "would you believe me if I said he's a cuddle bug at home and best friends with my kids?" She said "oh yeah! That's usually the case for most cats" so I felt a little better

That same tech just reached her hand straight in the carrier to grab him despite the growling and hissing  brave woman

Max had cage aggression. He would growl and sound ferocious when caged bit otherwise the best patient. When I told the cardiologist that they just left him uncared and he was an angel. When he had his first and only curve my vet left early and the one who took over labeled him aggressive. When I vet saw that we had a good laugh.
I think your plan should work and hope that’s why he’s going outside of the box.
