Hi guys, Sooty took a big turn for the worse overnight, had to take him to the ER 1st thing this morning. Temp of 106.5 - so no brainer, straight to the ER.

So far, all they can say is that he seems to have an extremely serious infection. They have done more BW and UA and the latest I heard from ER Dr is that the WBC is sky high. No indication of kidney or liver issues though. He's on IV (fluids) plus ABs (Baytril & Unsasym, no more Orbax as clearly that wasn't working.)

They're doing all they can for him so we have to wait and see... Will let you know later - or when we get news.

Take care today everyone, and I will keep you posted as best I can, through this...

Re: 1/23 Sooty - at ER

Thanks everyone! Means a lot.

Just spoke to the ER, he's holding his own, his temperature has come down a bit... (105.2, still very high but better than 106 earlier) - he isn't eating, but they've syringe-fed him some baby food and he ate that OK... otherwise, no significant change. Will just have to wait and see if the fluids and ABs kick in or not...

They said to check back with them in maybe two hours or so - I'll try and keep you posted...

Re: 1/23 Sooty - at ER

oh Perry, i would have never thought another kitty in LL was going thru a hard time...i will indeed keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers today...i know first hand how worry you must be...keep us updated when you are able....

if you can...try to reinforce to the ER staff they need to keep trying to syringe feed him not just once but few times...i know at the hospitals they get busy...so do mention that if you can...once is not enough...hope he eats better even if it's baby food...

Re: 1/23 Sooty - at ER

:YMHUG: Prayers above equal blessings down & I am keeping you both in mine (((Perry and Sooty)))

Re: 1/23 Sooty - at ER

Thank you so much for all the support, thoughts, vines, snowflakes and everything... I know I'm a bit late updating you but I was there for a visit tonight, took him some home-fuds and some home things to remind him of us, a t shirt, my slippers, his teddy bear, etc.

They let me stay quite a lot longer than I expected, with him, at the ER; he's alert and responded to me OK althoguh no purrs, he's still very ill but definitely better than when I last saw him there earlier today - and he ate a bit for me, while I was there, about 2 tsps of FF was all but he wolfed that down! He's hanging in there - and he's definitely in the best place he needs to be right now... (by now he's back on the IV fluids). They'll be watching him overnight (better than I probably could if he were at home) and they'll call us if anything happens, so I'm content to go to bed and hope he'll be OK in the morning, when I go pick him up. I have to take him to the regular vet to continue the IVs etc, in the morning. Will update you again when I get the chance tomorrow...

Have a good night y'all! Sorry again that it's been so long between updates...
Perr & Cathy - thanks SO much for hanging in there with us, you guys are something else....

Re: 1/23 Sooty - at ER

Hoping Sooty continues improving overnight!! I"m sure having some familiar smells and his teddy bear will help him feel calmer at the ER.

Re: 1/23 Sooty - at ER

Hi guys sorry again for being 'away' a lot ...

Sooty is back at the regular vet office, still hospitalized, he's stable but still very sick, temp is still high (104s). IV fluids and a cooling fan are helping but not sure or even unlikely that the current ABx is doing ay good.

Dr Roesner is doing some new tests for certain other types of possible organisms (that I couldn't repeat the names of if I tried) - has to go to an external Lab - so results will take a couple of days. Shes offered to take Sooty to her home, overnight, so she can keep him on the IVs and keep an eye on him (that was quite a surprise...)

So we're not great but still not quite out of options...

Will not know more until later so if I don't update the condo until maye later on tonight, please don't take 'no update for a while' as bad news, OK?

Will get back to you as and when I can, if anything changes....
Perry

Re: 1/23 Sooty - at ER

That is very nice of your vet. Lots of prayers and good vines being sent for a full recovery, soon.

Re: 1/23 Sooty - at ER

Just got back from visiting Sooty, he's not a happy camper at all and looks about as ill as we know that he is. He is just about holding his own.
Not much else I can add at this point, except I am glad we got him on the bupe when we did, because the fPLI result came in today and it was clear positive (7.2 = definite P-titis) - so at least he's been on the right Tx for that since Friday. If only we can find out what else is going on - and to that end they're, doing some additional Lab tests, but it will be 1 to 3 days at Antech before we know the results. Hope he makes it that long...

Not very optimistic at this point in time - but then. Sooty has surprised us before...

Will let you know ASAP, as and when there is any further news...

Re: 1/23 Sooty - at ER

Come on Sooty.....you can and will get better!!! Tons and tons of snowflakes for him, Perry. Thanks for letting us know what's going on....I know it's tough when you have a sick baby to take the time to get online.

Re: 1/23 Sooty - at ER

Sending lots of love to Sooty boy...and healing vines and a blizzard of snowflakes to him too!
Good that his temperature is coming down...slowly, but it is getting lower. And that is so good that he isn't at the ER but at the vet's home now. I do hope he will rest comfortably there and get well soon.
It is good that he ate a little for you, but as with humans they say "feed a cold and starve a fever" so I hope that it's the same for Sooty. His body is working on that infection so it doesn't have anything to work on digestion....
Many thanks for the updates....
Thinking of him tonight ...and you and Cathy too, Perry.
Sending prayers and loving, positive wishes to you all (((((Sooty ~ Perry ~ Cathy)))))

Re: 1/23 Sooty - at ER

Perry I'm sending lots of hugs for you and Sooty. He is in good hands and if anyone can pull through he can. I am keeping you and Perry in my thoughts and checking in often for updates.

Unfortunately cats don't have human livers. I bet they are giving him clinicare or some sort of liquid calories.

((((((Sooty))))))

Re: 1/23 Sooty - at ER

I hope after a good night's rest you all feel better tomorrow. This vet sounds like a keeper. Sounds like you've been doing all the right things so hopefully he'll turn a good corner soon.
