Yesterday's Condo

Ick! Now I know Cinco is messing with me. He just had to throw in that ugly number and spoil our pretty spreadsheet - that's only the second pink this year! I wish the DH had tested again - he might have gotten 299 (of course, with my luck he'd have gotten 305)! Then he decided to plummet down to blue. THEN, he only ate a few bites of his second breffis, which is not normal. Thank God for Forti Flora - one little sprinkle and viola! CPC! Whew! Cinco, stop trying to drive me insane! It won't take much more!
:banghead:

Minka and Sasha both look like they're feeling better, but neither was enthused about breakfast. I gave Minka her Ond+Pepcid gelcap and gave Sasha some Cerenia. It's been an hour and neither wants more than a bite of their fuds, so I'm wondering if a change of flavor is in order. I'm going to break down and take up some FF in a few minutes.

Harvey is alert and anxious to get out of the cage. Still not crying, thank goodness. I gave him the .05 of Bupe, but I really don't think it's doing much, so I will probably stop that. He ate most of his breffis, but was really more interested in escaping. It should be "fun" getting him into his carrier so I can clean the cage. I'm going to try an lb with slightly higher sides as he is getting litter everywhere with the low one. I think he's healed enough that a couple of inches more won't hurt. The incision looks really good.

Beautiful day here - sunny and upper 60s. Hard to believe part of the country is dealing with a blizzard. Praying for the safety of all our LL family members in harm's way - stay warm and safe!

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans. :bighug: Prayers continue for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF & DH, Lisa's DF and Elise's DM.

Thoughts and prayers for Cindee who had to help Wonton cross. :( :bighug:

Well that's certainly an improvement! It drives you nuts when they go on the fuds strike. Tess is too, I think it's the Advantage that I gave her a couple of days ago.:(

Well, that number is barely pink and Cinco came down nicely, so I don't think it's a problem. Cinco just wanted to keep you guessing! Good luck with the fuds battle. Glad to hear that Harvey is healing well. I'm sure he really wants out of that cage. How much longer will he be in the "slammer"?

Have a fine evening, Tricia.

Ella & Rusty

Thanks for visiting, Elise, Ann and Ella.

Cinco was a good boy and ate his snacks the rest of the day, so I rewarded him with a sprig of catnip. He sure has fun with that! I'm planning to give him one every few days, to liven things up. He leads such a boring life. I'm glad I found something he can enjoy. Elise, he came down a bit more, but didn't make it to the lagoon. He's sleeping off the catnip now. :p

Harvey will have to stay in the cage through Sunday, Ella. That will be 10 days. He gets the stitches out next Wednesday. They said 10-14 days, and he's got a history of being a fast healer, so I'm going with the 10 days unless the incision doesn't look good. So far it looks great (anti-jinx), but he's getting more impatient about being in there, now that i'm not keeping him doped up. I've bribed him today with boiled chicken in broth, but that is only going to work so long.

Sasha has eaten a little bit several times today, so I think she's close to her normal intake, but I can't tempt Minka with anything (although she did drink some chicken broth). So I bit the bullet and syringed 10 ml of a/d into her. She was amazing! She just sat calmly in my lap and swallowed. She didn't start to resist until I was almost done, so I think 10 ml at a time will be the limit per sitting. The question is, how many a day? I think I will send Dr. S an e-mail and ask her. I'm just so relieved that it went so well. I was really stressing about it.

we grow a pot of catnip on the deck and there's another plant in the garden - amazing how exciting that can be! I'm glad Cinco got a little treat!

you've got your hands full with the whole crew! they're lucky to have you.

I think Cinco just wanted a little more attention this morning. I'm glad he came down and ate for you. I'm glad the assisted feeding went well with Minka. Hopefully you won't have to do that very often. I hope Harvey continues to heal quickly. I'm glad Sasha ate more for you. You're doing a great job managing everything.

It sounds like Minka is the same way Trix is with assist-feeding...it's like they want to eat, but can't quite bring themselves to do it on their own. For Trix, she often eats well right after a syringe.

When this latest round of p-titis flared up my vetty felt that 60mls per day was enough to "maintain" things with Trix. When I've had to assist, I also only do 10mls at a time, and usually space them apart by about an hour and a half. I don't want to "force feed" a scarf-n-barf situation - I like to make sure the previous fuds are settled before moving on to the next round. And, I always offer plated food both before and after. We were lucky this time around...I've only had to assist a few times before her appy kicked back into gear - it's almost like the assist-feeding reminded her that having a full belly was a good feeling. I hope the same is true for Minka, but at the very least, being able to assist-feed is a tremendous stress reliever, because you know for sure they are getting the calories and nutrients they need.

Cinco did bring it down very nicely for you today...more of those blues, and maybe some greens, too - ok, Cinco! Enjoy that 'nip!! Heal up, Harvey! Eat up, Sasha and Minka! Have a great evening Tricia and Mark!

Good recovery, Cinco.

I'm glad Minka let you feed her and Sasha is eating. Also glad Harvey's incision is doing well.

As usual, you have your hands full and handle it all in stride. You are amazing!

Thanks for stopping in, Julie, Carla, Marje and Amy.

Amy, I was thinking of your experiences with Trixie when I decided to try assist feeding. It seems Minka is a lot like Trixie, right down to only eating if I hold the plate! An hour or two after the syringe feeding, she came down to the kitchen like she was looking for food. I gave her some FF, but she only ate a couple of bites and walked off. I left it out for her, and a couple hours later it was gone. It could only be her, since Harvey is caged, Sasha didn't come downstairs today and Cinco rarely leaves the family room. Then, at dinner time, she ate 3/4 of her meal in two sessions (all with me holding the plate, of course!). So maybe I'll just have to give her one syringe a day to get her going. Since I'm using the a/d for that, it' s high calorie and should really help. Paws crossed this pattern repeats tomorrow! I'm feeling cautiously optimistic.

Sasha, too, is doing better. She cleaned up the boiled chicken Minka did not eat, and one half of the serving of Fancy Feast I had left out for Minka. Then she ate 3/4 of her dinner an hour later! :)

I did send that e-mail to her Oncologist. Maybe I should send a follow-up to tell her what happened later.

I wish Cinco wouldn't go so high at PS. Any suggestions for bringing that number down some, now that he's spending so much time in blues?

Cinco! What you doing all the way up there buddy?? Come on back down to the shore...you're supposed to bring the hotdogs!! ~ China

Great to hear that you got Sasha eating!! Have you ever considered finding a good trained octopus so you'd have plenty of extra hands to hold everyone's plates while they eat?...LOL

Have you tried giving Cinco a snack at about +9 to see if it'd bring down those Pre-shots? That's the only thing I've heard might help

Hey, Chris. I have been giving him a snack at +8 when I test him. I'll have to try waiting till +9.

I am not happy about this flat yellow cycle. He hasn't had one of those for a while. I hope it means he'll have an active cycle tomorrow. I don't understand what's going on with him. He's been doing so well. o_O

Good to hear that the fuds strikes were over this evening. Come on down Cinco, party in the grotto tonight!

What %carb snack are you feeding at +8? Unless kitties are on a really low dose and thinking about OTJ, it's not recommended to feed carbs later in the cycle after nadir. It can put the brakes on the insulin which is usually easing off by that time, which can cause numbers to zoom. When Neko was on Lantus she insisted on a +9 snack in the daytime (I'm such a wimpy mom :() so I gave her a zero carb snack. Now that she's on Levemir, her nadir later so that +9 snack works fine.

One thing that can help duration is a little more insulin. But he is getting green nadirs.... Paws crossed it's just temporary.

@Wendy&Neko, I either give him some FD salmon or a 0-2% food. A small amount. He's just so hungry all the time. He is very uncooperative about testing without at least a treat.

He barely made it to the grotto, but he's there!

That syringe feeding seems to have unlocked something. Minka has been eating all day since then. She just has her second post dinner snack. I'll keep opening cans as long as she keeps eating!:)
