Bella’s ketones were “small” yesterday. Just tested and she is “trace” today!

If I could figure out how to post previous links I would.

I plan on keeping her dose at 0.1
for tonight depending on her BG.
Also I’m increasing the amount of carbs/ calories in her food while on insulin.
Fingers and paws crossed.

Paws and fingers crossed here too ...keep us posted.

Let us know how it goes! In how much time is "tonight"?

An hour and fourty five minutes.
Now she seems uninterested in food. Her appetite had improved this morning.
I’m so discouraged. I cannot give insulin if she won’t eat.
This is what has happened in the past...

She only needs to eat a little for you to inject Lantus because its onset is fairly slow - a couple of teaspoons?

I’ve been down this road before.. every time I’ve tried her on insulin. I want to help her, but it’s doesnt seem to do that . It makes things worse, she won’t eat, her blood sugar tanks and I’m chasing her around with food.
To say I’m discouraged is an understatement
I have done everything possible for this beautiful cat.
Maybe she’s trying to tell me something.

It's not really true that you can't give insulin if she doesn't eat but you should ask for detailed advice about this from the experienced folks on this forum. You might have to alter what you feed her to tempt her in order to be able to give insulin. I know this was discussed in one of your other threads.

Lantus isn't like Vetsulin, it takes 2-3 hours to onset. Do you think she could be coaxed in that time? That said, if she will not eat at all, I would wait to see if she would eat in 20 mins and try again. If not, then skipping might be your only option.

I got her to eat about 2 Tablespoons of slightly higher carb food. BG was 255.
Gave her .1 unit of Lantus.
Yeah!
phew!

I agree with what Kris said. If you can get her to eat a couple of tsp at shot time, I would shoot as said, onset isn't for a few hours so if your are able to be home and try some food again in a few hours.

Glad she ate for you tonight and you shot.

Looking on the SS, the numbers on 1/18 were nice numbers and not too low. When you say she had a hypo event on that day, did she have symptoms that indicated such or are you going by the numbers?

The ongoing problem with low numbers is that she won’t eat and looks like she feels terrible.

That's a little different from having a hypo event or having a reaction to insulin. Not eating when kitty is going lower can be a problem. But looking at the SS for that day, she came up nicely, and with a bounce. One thing to consider is that the greens she gave you that day were at +5 and +6 which is usually the lowest point in the cycle. From there kitties start to come up in numbers as the insulin starts to be less potent. Knowing that can give some comfort and knowing that using a human meter the "take action number" isn't until 50.

That’s good to know
She’s notoriously sensitive to meds... always had been. The Lantus last time gave her lose stools.. hoping it doesn’t happen this time.
It’s such a balancing act.
