Good Morning LL.

I have a two hour delay this morning thanks to a little snow. Mother nature must have known I needed it to catch a +3 today!

WCR: Hungry and patient. Came out to see what all the ruckus was at feeding time in the kitchen and ran back to his room when I headed that way with his food. I tested him twice this morning because I was shocked by his number (1st test 256, 2nd test 273 and I averaged the two). At his +6 last night he was 323 and I was happy with that progress. Anyway, he was a good boy letting me test him twice considering how hungry he was :-D

I am going to exercise patience and caution, but throw out a thank you to Ronnie for suggesting it was the cartridge. With this new number It's certainly looking that way. The last vial was going on 45 days. Just opened the first of the free cartridges from the December offer!

Thanks Helene and Gayle for the cheerleading last night. Fingers and paws crossed the progress continues...if not, will ask for dosing advice.

Re: 1/26 Six's AMPS 264

A new cart of Lantus can make a big difference.
A two hour delay.....sounds like you are a teacher or work in a school?

Re: 1/26 Six's AMPS 264, +3 240

Off to work...

Six wished me well with his 240. :-D I put out an extra teaspoon of food (mama bean overly worries) and he's already chowing on it.

Again, a big thanks to Ronnie...looks like this new cartridge is working it's magic. Going to throw this out there...I know Ronnie changed every 28 days...anyone who wants to respond on how many days they get out of a cartridge? After all the reading, I was hoping to get 60 days out of a cartridge...maybe not?

Yep, I'm a teacher and I love these 2 hour delays! I get to drive to work in the daylight...so very nice.

Happy Tuesday Beans and Kitties!

Re: 1/26 Six's AMPS 264, +3 240

Amy - good luck with the new cartridge. I think I am going on 21 days so I would like to know what others say too.

Re: 1/26 Six's AMPS 264, +3 240

I have never used the cartridges, but these lower numbers with the new cartridge look quite promising. Keep it up Six!

Re: 1/26 Six's AMPS 264, +3 240

Always liked a new cartridge, so refreshing.Like freshly squeezed orange juice.

I dumped my first one (actually just under 28 days) cuz I panicked, lol, but ECID and reactions differ, so it really just depends.

My 2nd vial was dumped at 37 days! I don't know how I kept it together back then lol, and last vial just before trial was at 31 days, sweating bullets there cuz we were sooo close

Some kitties do very well heading into the 30ish days or longer, track the patterns in ur SS, check ur vial for floaties and keep track of any days it's been mishandled and accidently left out too long etc.

In my opinion, piece of mind especially if ur doubting it and have reasons to doubt it.
I think the 60 days average is for Levemir I've heard.

Have a good day Amy!

Re: 1/26 Six's AMPS 264, +3 240

Goodness me, 45days on that cartridge? Yikes!
Now, you can look on this as good info for the future. I went through the same thing with shadoe's vial; when I switched to a new cartridge, it was like we had switched on the lights, giving much better numbers.
I added a column on Shadoe's ss, specifically to track the age of the cart I am using because I don't want to waste any time with a turned cart of insulin, no good for you or for Six.

I know it's said that many use theirs after that 20-30 cut off, but if you are careful and watching Six's numbers, you will know when it seems to be getting weak or whatever happens to the insulin.

Just watch how nicely Six perks up with some fresh juice! :thumbup

Good job, Six! Now let's join up with Shadoe and Max and the others, and we'll head into those nicer numbers.

So with any luck we will see some yellows tonight.

So about the cartridges...I was totally skeptical with the 28 day refill...I'm always skeptical about that kind of stuff. So I read and read and based on that reading thought...hey, with any luck we can go 60 days on this vial (now using the cartridge). No floaties, clear, no obvious signs of problems and it doesn't get left out. Ha, master planned foiled again. I should have known dealing with a cat...cats love to foil beans plans. Will now watch his # and age of the cartridge. We were also using a vial. I wonder if that makes a difference over the cartridge. Just pondering...

8 years ago we had a diabetic kitty, Ashley (GA), who used Humilin for a year and went OTJ. We only replaced his vial one or two times in the year...not on purpose, just because no one told us we probably should have replaced it sooner. We also didn't home test until the end when he went hypo...didn't know we could home test. Looking back...we were so lucky he went OTJ because we sure didn't help the process! We took him in at 13 years of age when my Grandfather passed...I remember crying in the vet's office the day of dx telling my vet we had to do whatever it takes to keep him alive because I promised my Grandpa we would take care of him. Ashley went OTJ a year after joining us and lived for 5 more years with us until the ripe old age of 19!

I hope I am not jinxing myself here:

I have been using the same vial of Lantus since October. I am vigilant about storage, I never shake it, I never inject any air or extra insulin back into it and I inspect it daily for floaties. Last month, I took it to the pharmacy and had the pharmacist inspect it. Our old vet told me it would last up to a year. It turns out she was wrong about many things, but since I spent so much money on it, I'm trying very hard to make it last.

I don't think this is typical, I think we got lucky, but it is possible...

I hope you see some nice low numbers tomorrow!
