Yesterday's discussion of Rusty's mysterious reactions to his meds

Good Afternoon L&LL,

Rusty is feeling good today: eating well, playing a little, having good schmoozes with his beans, and in general acting normal. His breathing is good and so are his eyes. Keep it up, Mr. Cat! He was even on duty in the lagoon for a while. I decided to wait the full 6 cycles before raising his dose. If he could just settle down and not dive and bounce I might not have to raise it.
@Linda and Bear Man : I finally got around to putting the results of Rusty's last two blood tests on the Labs tab of his spreadsheet. The vet has the IDEXX machines.

This has been a busy day of chores. We had wanted to go snowshoeing, but it turned out that there wasn't enough time. So we went to the landfill (Elvis is still standing), cleaned the house (our Film Society--not "Secret"--is coming this evening to see the Leni Riefenstahl movie "SOS Iceberg" that we saw a couple of years ago and want to see again). Rusty will be a good host, I'm sure.

Wishing everyone a good weekend (TGIF) and sending good health vines to all kitties and beans in need.

I saw Rusty’s labs. He sure is a healthy cat! I see that his eosinophils are elevated, but now I recall that they always are in his blood work. That’s a type of white blood cell that can be elevated when there are parasites or allergies involved. Maybe he has some environmental sensitivities? Perhaps wood smoke from the fireplace? Christmas tree? The steroid would likely help with an allergic reaction. He may have more than one thing going on, making it hard to make sense of what’s working and what isn’t and why. In any case, something is working right now, and that’s good news!

It also looked like his hematocrit was a bit high. He may have been a bit dehydrated when they took his blood sample. Not a concern.

Thank you so much, Linda. I'm sure he was dehydrated. That was a real cold spell here and the furnace was working overtime. Rusty does drink quite a bit of water, and I add water to his food. He spent a lot of time drinking the Xmas tree water, too!
See you soon!!

The film night was great: "SOS Iceberg". Rusty was engaging, greeted all the guests, and watched a lot of the movie (from the early 1930s, shot in Greenland among gigantic icebergs). The actors actually swam in that freezing Arctic water in some of the scenes. No stunt men, no multiple takes. Amazing!
