And with your little girl, try to encourage her to drink water. Diarrhea for a few days can cause some dehydration.

And be patient as you can with BF. He's probably feeling "left out", and hopefully he'll come around. If he understands how much your kitties mean to, he will.

You're all doing okay, Samantha. In a few days, it won't feel so overwhelming.

thank you carl, i dont know why but i need constant encouragement, validation and affimation about this. i know, not very attractive, but words alone cant express my gratitude for you all here. im going to do a +4 in a minute. ill post. <look at me doing a bg w/o being told....wow. I'm not looking ofward to it, but need to see if he's dropping. please watch for me. pray there good numbers. hoping to see marje soon too. if even for a minute, she is my security blanket. hoping i can go to bed after this bg reading.

You may want to update your subject line. You do that by going to the first post in this thread. There is an "Edit" button above the text box. Change the info in your subject line as you collect data. Then click on Submit.

Since you've noted that you're using an AlphaTrack meter in your signature, you can save space in your subject line by not duplicating the info there.

There are a couple of things you can do for your civie's diarrhea. I can't recall if you were giving Ruben a probiotic. FortiFlora is available on-line and is made specifically for cats. If you want to get something you can use more immediately, Pearls is a human probiotic that is a small pill. You can also use ReNew Ultimate. It's available in the refrigerated supplement section at Whole Foods or GNC. It's a rather potent probiotic. You mix 1/3 of a capsule into food. Some people also find that pumpkin (pure pumpkin, not pie filling) provides fiber that can help to resolve diarrhea.

thats good right? I mean i'm still grren about drops and that sort of thing but the number isn't dangerous tho, right?
wendy,carl, marje and the rest of the gang how can i repay you for all the words of support and encouragement? you all could be the very reason ruben stays with me, how does one repay that? its as if i birthed him, i see no difference from my flesh and his fur. we are one. my words become redundant but with every thank you my heart grows a little bit. each thank you holds more weight than the rest.

both cats are on metronozanole ruben since tue night vet stop after 5 days and put little maple on it for 5 days -started her yesterday just gave her, her 3rd dose. still has the runs. poor little thing. she is fiesty, even have to have a travel vet come to the house for her. she does not travel, so really trying not to have to put her through that, plus my funds are scary low at the moment.trying to wait it out.
neither one wants anything to do w chix broth either?

Reason is that Marje and I both think he may have dropped very low last night. If you look tonite even he went from 314 to 135,in four hours. He has two hours left before maximum insulin action,,, if he keeps dropping at the same rate he will be at under 50 in two hours... Another dose decrease and maybe a hypo if we don't watch.

Oh well forget the chicken broth, you tried tuna water?

I'm so very sorry and you did GREAT getting that +4. Very proud of you.

So we are where we were last night. If you haven't fed him since you got the 135, why don't you give him a couple tsp of LC food and recheck him at +5. I will definitely be here.

kk now im in panic mode again should i test in a hour and a half? could he level off? should i try to feed him, gravy lovers or reg food?
civie's < is that another word for kitty? I tried to google it and got nothing? don't mean to be so dumb, duh?...lol

Get some sleep sweety, I am no expert, but I would leave some food out for both cats since ruben seems to run low and Maple has had the runs, But i'm sure you will get the best advise here. Either way, Just want to say I love you and am so proud of you. This is alot for anyone to take on. So MUCH to learn, but you are smart and determined to win this battle. Goodnight Sammy

No panicking....you are in control because you can test and we can tell you what to feed.

Feed him his regular food and test at +5 ok?

Ruben is in very safe numbers. He's dropped fast but things look good. Give him a teaspoon or two of LC food. The idea is to see if the LC will slow him down and get him surfing. We usually don't feed HC until numbers are lower. I would re-test at your +5. If you're nervous, then get a test at +4.5.

Also, if you can keep the numbers from your PMPS in your subject line that will help immensely. Several of us scan the board to see if there is any need for assistance and being able to see what's going on in the current cycle makes it much easier for us to get that information. (Otherwise, we have to open every single condo.)

Also I am thinking with maple you might want to make the transition more gradual to wet.

Maybe give her back mostly her old dry food (whatever she used to get) and then after a few days start transitioning her more slowly onto the wet by giving her more and more each day. Don't let Ruben at the dry though.

just gave him about 1/4 a can of fancy feast. I feel good about that< right? I'm to afraid to get comforable with any emotion, but i don't want to stay in panic mode...lol Im doing okay. hate all this testing but i get why it has to be done. i cant believe my vet. she does support home testing but would rather me use the stix and then if they alert me then test. crazy, she obviously doesn't get it. im grateful for her but think she is way to non chalaunt about this.

You mean the keto diastix? Twice a week is good or whenever you see numbers over 360. Or if you smell acetone/nail varnish remover from their breaths.

I think vets don't have a choice but to be nonchalant, you have seen now how much effort it takes from people like Marje carl sienne and Everyone on this board to help you through this. Vets just don't have the time, or in many cases, knowledge to do this, no matter how much they care...

No need to panic, you are totally on top of this! It will be fine. How is he doing with the testing now? Any more luck not piercing the ear? More gently, 45 degree angle right?

I never use glucose urine sticks any more. I did at first so I could see at what number Gracie would start dumping sugar in her urine...that is known as renal threshold. But it isn't necessary that you do it. So with all else you have going on, I would not worry about urine glucose levels...you are getting real time data with the blood tests.

As far as a urine ketone test...I'd get it every day, if possible, at least for a while.

The other thing to be aware of is that many times when we all post at the same time, you might not be aware that several response have been added close together. So it's always important when you post to scroll back to the last place you posted and read through all the posts in between so you don't miss something.

Watching for the +5.

testing is still difficult. he jumps and that 45 degree angle goes out the window, yes still piercing..poor boy. want to hold light under his ear but i need to right hands. lef one gets all awkward. lol
 
143 +5 i did okay i think(still probably pierced-but not as bad, i hope) he's getting less co operative, got a growl again, never does that. ugh hate that. he stayed tho, what a good boy he is. i'd be pissed too, his blood line is just gone just blood under the skin when i put a flashlight to it...sorry ruben ill get better

its the amps that makes me the most nervous, just want to make sure someone is here for me, if number is low? so nervous about that. how long do i wait to feed him after i post and no one get back to me? whats the window?
 
Will he eat more if you give it to him? If so, you can go to bed since he's flat. In a perfect situation, I would normally ask you to feed, go to bed for a couple hours, and then test him at +7 so we know he is coming up. I know that would be difficult for you so please just give him a good helping of food before you go to bed.

If you can post a +11 test in the morning, great. If you can't, post the +12 IF he's 180 or below. Dont feed him if you are stalling and be sure you put something like this in the subject line if you need help: 1/27 Ruben +12 145 stalling help pls

If he's above 180, go ahead and shoot .75u, feed, and be absolutely positive that you get a +2 test.

I'm sure someone will be here to help but you can always read the link in my signature block for "Dealing with low Preshots".

Note: I'm giving Samantha a number of 180 because she is using an AT which is roughly 150 on a human glucometer.
 
ate about a full tsp of food..hope thats enough. Ill post in the am, left foot is going icy cold and tingly < body needs rest. (this cm is awful, but at least its not ms)

Ok...good job today, Sam. Hope you get some rest. If, by any chance, you just wake up later, why don't you test him and see how he's doing.....just if you are up anyway.
